My niece got this recently and she wants to watch it constantly (happens with every new movie she gets).

For a kid's movie, there sure are a bunch of adult references. This isn't the first movie designed for kids that I've seen that has adult references either.

Just watch Bugs Bunny and Woody Woodpecker cartoons - tons of humor aimed at adult viewers there.

How is this news? There are adult references in nearly all kid movies, including old Disney ones. Go watch Pinocchio again sometime, you'll be surprised. Same deal with more modern classics such as Toy Story.

Lots of kid's movies do have adult references and I used to wonder "what do they think that means?", but that's not how kids work. It just goes right over their heads unless they hear an adult laughing about it. The Shrek trilogy definitely has alot of stuff only adults would get, but it gets adults to watch the movie with the kids, so it's all good.

exactly. Pretty much any new "kids" movie is geared just as much at adults as kids.

Shrek is for sure the worst offender.

Nope, I'm not joking. For example, Jiminy Cricket had the hots for the Blue Fairy. I know this sounds insane if you haven't watched Pinocchio since you were a child, but seriously, if you watch the film as an adult you can easily pick up on this.
