We rented The Butterfly Effect last night, and that it was an awesome movie. The DVD had two sides to it. Last night we watched Theatrical - but there is also a Director's Cut version.

I want to know what the differences will be if we watch the Director's Cut. Alternate scenes? Extra scenes? Different ending? Huh?

It is a great movie, a couple of parts made us jump. I don't care what some others are saying, the acting was good and so was the script.

I just watched it last night, and I thought is was a really good movie. There are difference like extra sences, and a different ending.

I know what the directors cut is. It had a different ending. Since you did not post "SPOILERS" in your thread title I do not want to give it away. If you want to PM me I'll tell you there.

Okay done. You can post it now, but I'm going to go watch it so I won't read the spoilers until after. ;)

I'm going to also play this with DTS. Last night we played it with Dolby Digital, both options on the DVD.

I'm certain he goes back in time to kill his mom while she is giving birth thus causing him not to be born. This is what I heard lol I'm not certain its the truth but it does sound reasonable.

LOL no, I have the directors cut, he goes back and causes a fourth miscarriage, remember she said she had 3 before, makes a bit of sense now huh? He kills himself like the three before him to ease her pain. Now what happens in theatrical lol. That I don't know.

Wow did that suck.

Note to all: Theatrical release is great, the Director's Cut totally ruins it. Those extra scenes just don't blend in with the movie, and then the ending makes you wish you hadn't seen the movie. I had flip the dvd back to theatrical and replay the last scene just to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

Directors cut.

He goes back to the womb and strangles himself with the umbelical cord.
- His mom then gets remaried and has a normal kid.
- His girl and her brother don't get screwed up because they both go live with their mother. The girl said something about how she didn't go live with her mother because she wanted to be near him, but since he wasn't born, she left her father.
- I don't remember what happend to the other kid, but I guess he was fine.

Now can someone tell me how the theatrical version ends?

in the theaterical version, he meets the girl at some very young age and says to the girl:

"i hate you. dont come near me or else iwill kill you and your whole family" and the girl runs to her mother crying.

everyone grows up happy and it fast forwards to him being an adult and see's amy smart while walking on the sidewalk, but decides not to get together with her.

Yea, if anybody watched the Director's Cut on accident, then you watched an awful version. Just the deletion of those few scenes and the alternate ending totally changes your perception of the movie.

I think that is why so many people dislike this movie, they accidentally watched the wrong one...

I wish they hadn't included the Director's Cut on the rental. :p

Haven't seen it yet but what was his method of time travel? Someone told me he would focus on his journal?

I only saw the Director's cut and not the theatrical version.

Damn. I thought the director's cut would be better. I'm not going to rent it again though.

Hmm, strangling himself with the umbilical cord is odd but does explain for the other miscariages. I liked the original ending! Very cool movie. I loved seeing the explanations for his blackouts during life, like the one in grade school!

Talking about it makes me want to watch the movie again..
