The sad thing is, we don't have to resort to lies, but the Bush Administration is tempted to do so anyways. There's a recent study, not sure what it was called - heard about it on NPR, this study surveyed about 40 countries and it showed a correllation between people liking America and how well their economy is doing. Lets face it, the US is a modern world empire and it holds power throughout most of the world not through military, but the economic. This means that we can best influence people through economic means, because that is where we hold our power.Originally posted by: Moonbeam
The saddest part to me is that here's the US Government and Military, you'd think the greatest group on the planet and they have to resort to treachery and lies, propaganda and distortion to win a war that Superman comics won how many decades ago. It's all about Truth Justice and The American Way, or we might as well admit we're the SS. There's nothing more discouraging then cynics, doubters, and phony realists who are in fact nothing more than zombies and automatons that have no faith in anything at all. It is the empty soul that reaches for power. Thou shalt not bear false testament.

for the record.I think this country should pull its troops from South Korea and let THEM deal with the North.
The Defense Department is considering issuing a secret directive to the American military to conduct covert operations

Ashcroft was the advocate for wholesale detentions in America.
If I understand correctly, Ashcroft works for Bush. If Bush didn't agree with Ashcroft's naziesque agenda, he would have fired him.

Leave it to a cracker-jack box loony like Rumsfield to press for something like this.
The real mover behind all this is Ted Olsen, the Solicitor General. He should have been assigned other duties right after 9/11. IMO he is not capable of giving objective advice to Ashcroft wrt the WoT and the Constitutional issues that have arisen from it.

What government DOESN'T have psychological operations? I mean, comon, even individuals put their own spin on everything. It's been going on for centuries.

Dave, I hope you are so wrong. I had forgotten about Olsen. I'm sure all Americans have been touched by the loss of life on 9/11 and I really feel for the guy. If Ashcroft and Bush are really listening to him we are going to be in a world of hurt; at home and abroad.
Very insightful, Mr. Sohmer.
