Meh, apevia cable is a single 8-pin connection (not 4+4), has a single sleeve, and only cost me $3.52 using ebay bucks. 🙂

Individual sleeving is the thing these days from what I have seen.

At that point it feels like the 24pin was added just to have it there. Just looking at everything else they did, they probably could have found a way to hide it as well.
