The Buffalo Firestix or Patriot Ram Pc2 6400 2X1Gb question

So which do you guys think is better? For long term future use and OCing. Forget the hassle of rebates.

The buffalo ram with timing if 5-5-5 15 that everyone raves about, and may or may not have the micron chips presently. $195 shipped

I dont know the answer because I havent ever used patriot ram. I can say that my ddr800 firestix are running 55515@ddr950 right now and have been since two weeks ago when I built this rig.

I also couldnt find definitive proof that the chips are indeed micron, but I am quite pleased with their performance in my pc.

Buffalo. W/ patriot you don't know what you'll get they use several mircon d9 and even Elpida sometimes. Toms got lucky.
 
I just ordered the Buffalo today. I was thinking of the Patriot as well but in the end, I decided to go with the experience that folks like 'Wags1974' are having.
You don't see a lot of talk about the Patriot - especially for something that highly reviewed on a site like Toms. A lack of user feedback in the common forums made me wary.
 
The Buffalo....no question. Waiting for Wednesday for my second 2GB set to be delivered. Then it's 4GB goodness...set for.......well, a while at least.

The Patriot that Tom's acquired is not acting like what I've been hearing on other forums....sounds more like a hand-assembled, cherry-picked set sent to Tom's specifically for this testing. Wouldn't surprise me in the least that this might happen. Companies, when sending in products to be tested, have been known to send in products that are "tweaked" above and beyond what is really out there on teh consumer market.

The Buffalo, on the other hand, actually ran slwoer than the majority of what I've seen and heard of on this and other forums...makes me wonder where Tom's got THAT set.

But, you're about 95% assured to get Micron D9 IC's on the Buffalo....something you cannot even come close to with the Patriot. I have yet to hear of anyone NOT getting Micron IC'd Buffalo Firestix from Newegg. And even if you're not overclocking, the Micron just is a nice bonus.....in longevity and resale value later.

To check, you've got to remove a heat spreader, but with the Buffalo RAM, it's VERY easy. Mine came with the typical double-sided thermal tape, but was not super adhered at all and the spreader came off with very little effort or drama. Nice to know in case you want to change out the spreaders for a color change or other reason. I just snapped off the clips and, starting at one end and using my thumbnail, gently pried upward and it slowly lifted. Repeated the process across the strip....tape came loose easily...took less than a minute and had the spreader off. Micron IC's underneath.

 
Patriot hasn't used Micron for a long time...not sure how THG got a cherry picked kit, but they did.

Easy choice: Buffalo.
 
The rumor is that all firestix supplies this year are micron chips. The rumor also states elpidia chips were only used
last year for one specific vendor. Info taken from another thread, but so far, everyone who has ordered the firestix
that actually checked underneath the heat spreader are confirming Micron chips. Seems like the safest choice at
this point.
