waitwaitwait, i think we've all overlooked one thing here.

heroes AND BSG are going to be in HD DVD? I mean, I haven't done my research but until about 4 minutes ago I was pretty sure I was going to go BluRay. Not so much anymore....

All of the Hollywood studios except Universal are either blu-ray or dual-format. Universal is the only pure-HD-DVD studio, for now.

If blu-ray keeps outselling HD-DVD and that $200 HD player doesn't appear soon enough and sell well enough, Universal will eventually face reality and join the others.

Studio line-up:

Blu-ray only: Disney (which will include Pixar), Fox, MGM, Lionsgate and Sony

Dual: Warner, Paramount, DreamWorks currently, New Line has indicated that they'll likely do the same

HD-DVD: Universal.

20th Century Fox studios (you may have seen one or two movies from them) is blu ray exclusive so none of their movies will be on HD DVD...

The beginning of their movies have this intro:
Text

They have limited their release schedule until this BD+ spec was finalized. Now that it is ready, FOX is expected to start releasing their older movies on blu ray now...

Titles such as Independence Day, I Robot, Master and Commander, Die Hard 1-3, Predator 1/2, Aliens 1-4, Commando, XMen 1/2, Ice Age I, Mr and Mrs Smith, Robots, Minority Report, True Lies, The Abyss are just some of the titles that should sell well on blu ray...

Blu ray already has 2:1 sales ratio over HD DVD this year (blu ray has sold 67%to HD DVD's 33% of high def titles sold this year)...given the demographic base of the PS3, many of these titles will be coveted by PS3 owners and should help blu ray increase their lead in disk sales.

By widening the gap between blu ray and HD DVD sales, blu ray comes closer to winning the format war.

i don't see how this is a win at all. super DRM is not a selling point in much of the world. unless theres a way around it theyve pretty much f*cked themselves in asia. piracy might not create profits in software, but it definetly drives hardware sales. drive those prices down and it eventually will raise disc sales as well. lock down a format like fort knox and well you've just killed it.

studios these days are pushing for heavy DRM. Without DRM, they won't release titles. No titles released = no sales period.
It's sad, but we aren't escaping DRM these days. The studios are demanding it.
