97 Cannondale R300 road/touring, stock + old SPD DuraAce pedals. Needs a new saddle (and a complete component overhaul or sale).
99 GT Ricochet, stock (LX drivetrain) + MAVIC Crossland front, Thomson Elite 400mm seatpost, Selle Italia Gel Flite (pre-2001 revision), SPD with integrated alloy cage (545?). Needs a better rear wheel and suspension fork.

(maybe pics eventually, don't have a camera)

I have a problem with buying mediocre bikes and putting expensive (sometimes overpriced) components on them.

Nice bikes. Does that Avid Rollamajig on your rear derailleur really work? I installed one on my old bike, didn't notice an improvement, then got mud all over it.

Well, yeah. I had a lot of trouble getting a decent seat angle on this bike on a long enough seatpost (the seat tube on my previous bike was much closer to vertical). I ended up having to take apart a Shimano Deore XT seatpost and turn part of it around backwards to do it.

I'm not sure what the advantage is of putting your weight on your crotch (which is what I presume most people do) versus distributing it between your hipbones and forearms (and feet, of course). I figure the main function of the "nose" of the saddle is to keep you more stable during out-of-the-saddle riding and I'd just as soon not having it squashing the nerves and blood vessels down there. Personally, I'd think that having just two pads at the back and a horizontal bar placed a couple of inches lower would be a better design.

It seems to clean shifting up some what. But then I'm using old XT thumb shifters which WORK well with out it. I think someone using Grip shift might notice more of an improvement using a Rollamajig than I do with the thumb shifters.

BTW: I know the road bike doesn't look all that "special" but I built it to look that way! It's actually a hand built one of a kind, made here in Eugene back in the 70's. It's Columbus SL, SLR, SLX with campy dropouts and some other trick sh!t. The frame was built by a guy that worked for Bruce Gordon when he built race bikes here in Eugene. 17 lbs ain't bad for a steel framed bike and vintage Dura Ace components. ;)
