Dumb asses didn't check if train is on track and blade sits on a trailer with part sticking out. It swung onto track.

I've actually been there a few times. Lulling, TX. The turn is relatively tight and there are obstructions (you can see the blade crushing the RR crossing signal post) especially for an oversize load. I'm more curious who thought it was a good idea to take that route instead of staying on I-10 for another minute and just taking the straight shot on 80 though town. I mean maybe the turn is doable if you hit it just right and that justifies the slightly shorter route but not all truck drivers have equal skill...

If you watch closely you will see well before the train came that the trailer was knocking over the RR crossing sign post. I'm guessing the driver was going slow in order to minimize the damage he/she had already done.

that was a stout steel crossing structure, he had already damaged that blade beyond use *right* before the train finished it off .

They probably should have had flaggers to make sure that there is enough road that is clear so the truck can just gun it through. Guessing they got caught up with traffic in front and could not pull out completely from the track, then the train came.

It was not going to fit through there under any circumstance. Think of that blade as you would an airplane wing. When they drug that sign over with it, they screwed it up beyond repair. They were peeling material off the trailing edge!

Yep, it wasn't gonna fit, they tried to make it fit, then a train came so they tried to not get hit. Then they got hit.

And the amazing element of this story is that the precious cargo had a full and official escort through town. It seems the driver tried to turn too sharply at the crossing and got hung up against the stanchions marking the railroad crossing while he negotiated the turn.
