The best way to wire up??

i have two harddrivers both on IDE1 and a cd burner & Cd rom off IDE2 is this the best way to wire up iam useing a P4T-E mother with a 1.7 pent or would it be better to wire up one Harddrive then cd rom and second harddrive off IDE2 then Burner?? thanks for your input

Yes, that's pretty standard for setting up your drives. Your primary hd as master and and second hd as slave on IDE 1, and for IDE 2 I usually put the burner as master and the cdrom as slave. :)

The answer is that it depends. I have basically the same setup, but I wired them the way you didn't wire them. Basically I have a harddrive with each cdrom drive. Cdrom drives as slaves on each interface. This helps when copying from CD to the burner, because IDE can only access one device per channel at a time. In order to maximize speed, you want to split the devices that will be working together on seperate channels. I also do video capture, and it helps alot to have one harddrive for the OS on one IDE chain and the capture drive on the other.
