The best thing the GOP can do now is stay quiet

The more noise the GOP makes in opposition to Obama the worse off they will be in the coming years IMHO. The American public wants Congress to get shit done, and trust me the Democrats will fully be able to exploit the media and public opinion against Republicans if they stonewall everything the Democrats try to do.

Their best chance at regaining power IMHO is to stay quiet, oppose things when necessary but more or less get out of the way and let the Democrats potentially muck things up on their own. In fact, this is perhaps their best shot at regaining power again quickly in 2012 or 2016.

So we have one person telling people to leave the country in every other post, and now the GOP should just remain quiet.

At least we know who the jokers are around here.

My thoughts too, let the dems do what they want. In four years the country will be so fucked up, it should be a cake walk for the republicans.

I agree, best to keep quite for now. A GOP member saying something bad about Obama is a very quick way to get labeled a racist.

Well if you insist on staying you can at least sit in the corner.

This is why we can't have nice things. People too caught up in winning a personal victory to even care about moving forward as a nation and as a species.

Why would you WANT to win control of a fucked up country?

Sometimes it takes being on the other side of the fence to see that the grass isn't greener. We seen what happens when one party has control of both the white house and congress. Do you actually think that when the other party has total control its going to be any different? If so, I got some ocean front property I'll sell you.

No, the GOP needs to acknowledge that there's a shit-ton of disenfranchised people that want to vote fiscally conservative and socially liberal. They need to acknowledge that they cannot merely call themselves Republicans.. they need to BE Republicans. The stupid fucking small issues like abortion, gay marriage, etc need to disappear and the party needs to tackle real problems. The biggest problem right now is GOVERNMENT EXPANSION. If the Republicans worked to actually reduce the size of government rather than to increase while saying they stand for small government, they would gain a lot more votes.

Should the socially conservative/fiscally liberal McCain-esqe neocon GOP stfu? YES DEFINITELY. But, the fiscal conservatives and libertarian Republicans need to get louder than ever before. The Neocons need to be eliminated by any means necessary.

The Republican Party can never jettison the social conservative wing. It's simply too big of a voting block now, they can't ignore them and expect to win a national election.

so that's you're plan then? eff the rest of the country that isn't afraid of the coloreds and the gays? (not to mention the coloreds and gays themselves)

What ever happened to the GOP that freed the slaves? We need THAT party back in power.

edit: Lincoln wouldn't stand for folks shouting the "n word" at one of his rallies.

I think the only Republican who truly won something this entire election cycle is Ron Paul.

Perhaps they should embrace him...and align the party with him.

I actually agree, as far as politicians go. The Democrats are going to seriously screw up at one point or another in the next 2 years - every political majority does. The conservative media needs to be ready to jump all over it when it happens, because the mainstream media probably won't given the blatant bias that's become apparent during the past 18 months.

I get this vision of the OP sitting in his basement surrounded by the star and sickle finishing up Mein Kampf. Sure doesnt like to listen to anything that doesnt tow the democrat party line.

I would say Republicans are deep in the political wilderness and will be for some time. The Reagan years have given way and the party will be defined by the Bush presidency... it's a steep hill to climb. But I'm pretty sure they will recommit to limited government and economic freedom. They have to. Other pillars like strong national defense, traditional values and the 2nd Amendment are not in question.

Self-correct or self-destruct. This whole idea of staying quiet though is pure nonsense... think about what that means, thing about what that's saying. Pretty scary too.

Both the Democratic and Republican parties are populist in nature and will evolve their policies to appeal to the centrists and independents.

For example look at the Democratic platform promising tax cuts to 95% of Americans, look at the Democrats pandering to religious groups, look at the Republicans pander to hispanics, look at the Republicans about face on regulation. cwjerome is correct, there will be a time of healing and restructuring like the Democrats did and the tables will turn once again. There's a lot of opportunity for Obama to really screw things up as the fallout from this economic situation is only in the beginning stages and Iraq has the potential to backfire if things aren't handled well.

That's like saying that since the Dem's have now elected a black president they will have to keep doing the same since the blacks are too big of a block to ignore.

The republican party needs it's elected officials to go back to conservative principles and follow through on what they believe rather then go to Washington and do what they think will make other politicians happy, including other republicans.

When did someone shout the N word??

The video that claims that has been proven to be incorrect. The person shouted 'redistributer'
