LED just isn't cost effective, they need to cut the price by at least 4 fold before it becomes cost effective. As it is now, you will die long before you make your money back on them.

Oh really? What do you consider cost effective?

I can get LED bulbs up to 60 watts for $6.00 a piece (wholesale).

Considering neither vibration (ceiling fans) or temperature (outside) kills them like the CFLs, they are a WONDERFUL option that more than pay for themselves.

In addition, for places you want to save power like camping, sailing/boating, they are incredible. Long life an no current draw.
 
That price is even more scary when you say it like that. So I'd have to live till my 80's to get one of those bulbs to pay itself off in energy savings. 😕

That just doesn't seem like a really good investment to me. Especially if those things don't last 50 years.

$7 was overall savings not just electricity cost.
