The best "quiet" 80mm case fan?

Well, I am sure it was quieter than the "Quiet" Sunon fan that 2cooltek sells.
That fan is a lot louder (28dBA), but pushes a lot more air (30cfm) than the caliber of fans I was looking at (I want really quiet ones).

Does anyone know where to get Nidec fans from?

Bakwetu-
Do you know what those guys charge for Papst fans? They seem (if their advertised ratings of cfm and dBA are correct and not exaggerated) to be the best solution...if I can find them of course.
Do you know if the specs I have listed as Papst are the model fan you have?

Fun Guy-
I am definitely considering the Panaflos, but the Nidecs and Papsts are (at least according to specs) both quieter and more powerful. Tho I must admit, the Panaflos are easy enough to find.

Rain Man-
I see the Nidec promo... not bad. Tho I like those quiet 80mm the best, the quiet 60mm look nice paired up with an Alpha cooler (tho the 60mm Adda quiet fans have better specs).

Anyone compare these Nidecs to the Panaflos or Papst or Addas?

Zod -

Please let us know what you end up doing and how it turns out. As we all know, specs are only specs - the real story comes when the rubber meets the road (or when the juice hits the coil as in this case 🙂).

I am very curious about these Nidecs and Papsts ... I have a hard time believing that these two companies have overcome basic laws of physics - both quieter AND more powerful, hmmm .......

Sorry Zod
I'm from Sweden, I got my papst (92 mm and two 80 mm) from a friend in Germany who owed me money.

are the sunon and antec fans the exact same thing? the fans look exactly alike and the markings on the plastic are the same. the only thing that's different is the sticker on the fan.

I just received my Ultra-Quiet silencer power supply and an additional Silencer case fan.

It seems to be totally quiet, compared to the Chrome Orbs's fan at least that is rated at 29 dBa but sounds more like 40 dBa.

In fact I am basing my comparisons on my new 45 GB IBM 75GXP, which rated at ~30 dBa when idle (it is almost noiseless). I know I can trust IBM for their specifications.

Air flow of Silencer is more than Chrome Orb's (22 CFM), so I guess it would be close to the 28 CFM value as specified.

I agree with urbantechie, Silencers are weak as hell. As a matter of fact, I want to replace my 80mm Silencer with a more powerful fan. What would you guys suggest? Also, where would I get it?

caliskan,

you can't compare your silencer to the fan on the golden orbs. They aren't hte same size. Compare the silencer's airflow versus another 80mm fan. I think you'll be surprised.

I'm plenty happy with my 4 (2 in this comp and 2 in the mother's) l1as. They move enough air for my overclocked computer but yet they are quite quiet. My sparkle power supply has an ADDA fan in it and it seems pretty quiet.

I think PC&P make them - most of Quietpc.com's products are made by other companies - like the SilentDrive enclosure and the Radial Fin quiet CPU HS/F, which are both Molex products. I don't know who makes their PS though.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe someone else makes the fans, since some of PC&P's products are also made by other companies, the their PS's.

Quiet Sunon 80mm
I have 4 they work great bought em from 2Cool and he is a good guy with good prices

We need some independent source do a comparison of all these 🙂

i'd guess you'd need some sensitive sound equipment or just subjective tests for noise levels though.

Nidec makes excellent fans but they are almost all sold to OEMs and embedded in some type of equipment. The few I have owned were purchased out of surplus lots. They make some very quiet fans, and some very loud ones too, whatever the OEM specifies. I have two TA450DC 120mm Nidecs from a VAX enclosure lying around that are rated at 51 dBA... they move serious air, but sound like a small block V8 revving. I also have some 80mm that are quite tame.

I just ordered a couple Adda's for my case. They seem to be rated pretty well. Anybody have more experience with them?

how are those Adda fans CarpeDeo? Very quiet? I may go with those strictly for convience (pham has em and i may pick up an alpha combo from them).

As far as I can tell, they're inaudible. Sound is totally drowned out by my PS and G Orb. In terms of power, I don't really know. I don't have much to compare to. It doesn't feel like a hurricane or anything, but it's only rated at 26 cfm.
