The best photo cataloguing software?

Hey guys,

I've been searching for ages for the perfect photo organizational software, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips or ideas. Basically, I need something that will easily let me organize my thousands of digital images, search them by name, keyword, and other attributes, sort the photos and albums by date, name, God-knows-what-else... you get the idea. Image editing isn't necessary, but it should let me modify the files and move them around from within the software.

I'm really hoping that's not just a wishlist of features... seems like common sense to me, but none of the programs i've tried can quite do it all. The closest i've come is probably PFS Manager from ProFotoSoftware.com, but it's cumbersome and i can't for the life of me figure out how to delete albums once they're created.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'd definitely appreciate it.

p.s. probably is obvious, but i should mention it has to support EXIF data...

My wife uses Dell Picture Studio Standard which came with her $400 Dimension 4500 for free, she seems pretty happy with it.

I actually use gallery for all my photos. It depends on what you're doing and how geeky you're feeling but I keep them on a webserver I run. You can put all your unedited ones in hidden gallerys or another gallery all together. It works for me.
