I've had 3 German Shepherds throughout my life...they're by far my favorite breed of dog.

Last night one of our K9 officers was playing with her Shepherd out in the park...such a beautiful dog.

That thought hadnt even occured to me, actually.

What I like about Akitas is the "if you step across the line, I will rip out your Adam's apple and sh!t down your windpipe" attitude that they take with strangers. But OTOH they'll play nice with anyone you point to and say "good". That and they are quiet... whenever they bark they have a good reason for it.
