I tried getting into this show once before and got through all of two episodes before getting bored. I found the acting to be bad, either because one or two people couldn't act or someone was over acting. The humanish alien with the crazy spiked hair was the biggest overactor, man he got SO ANGRY and I couldn't help but laugh at it. Overall the first two or so episodes just didn't leave me wanting more which is ultimately why I stopped which is a shame since I heard the show was really good.

Maybe I'll try again soon since the entire series is on Hulu.

You really should try again, the first season does start a little slow but it becomes awesome after that. The only other caution I would give to prospective viewers is that CGI technology wasn't nearly as good then as it is now, so you may have to get used to the dated CGI style.

I still think this is the best SF series that has ever aired on TV.

Ivonova and Talia going lesbo was a nice twist, far before the likes of Ellen coming out of the closet. Psycorps were badass... Delenn "ragging it" for the first time was hilarious as well.

I always wanted a PPG. Garibaldi had to be the best character in the show. Molded after Bruce Willis.

Such a great show. A pleasure to watch. 🙂

"It was the year of fire, the year of destruction, the year we took back what was ours. It was the year of rebirth, the year of great sadness, the year of pain, and the year of joy. It was a new age. It was the end of history. It was the year everything changed."^_^

hell yeah

one of my sercurity appliances is named garibaldi!

Londo Mollari and Vir Cotto (the Centauri ambassador and his aide) were always getting fun lines. Here's a selection of quotes: http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0012575/quotes

Morden: What do you want?
Vir Cotto: I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up at your lifeless eyes and wave like this.
[gives a mockingly cheerful finger waggle]
Vir Cotto: Can you and your associates arrange this for me, Mr. Morden?

Haha I just started watching this again last night! After 6 times I had to leave it alone for a couple years and try to forget as much as possible to make it new again.

The acting was bad, the dialogue worse at times, but somehow I never cared. I love that whole series.

For those of you watching this for the first time, make sure you get the movies too, and watch the whole thing in the

intended order, not the aired order.

This:

Fantastic story arc.
Fantastic development.
Fantastic characters.
Bad acting (by some)
Bad writing at times (Horrible attempts at poetry and attempts to sound "deep")

Still a must see!!

And that:

It has been years since I have seen an episode.

Perhaps the best continuing story line I have ever seen in a sci-fi type tv series. Instead of doing 'monster of the week' they presented a long and thought out story arc, great stuff.

I met Peter Jurasik (Londo) at a convention 8 or 9 years ago, he was just like his character-loved to talk and laugh. And also Claudia Christian.
I thought Londo's story arc was great and tragic- always thought he was doing the right thing for the Empire, but going out of control at the same time.

Oh man, I LOVE this show. I just watched it this year, I'm at the beginning of season 5 right now. So many priceless quotations too-
"A pinata, huh? So, you think of me as something bright and cheerful, full of toys and candy for young children. Thank you! That makes me feel much better about our relationship." -Bester
Wonderful. I think the thing that I really like about this series is how multi-dimensional a lot of the characters are. Londo, for instance, I go from loving him to hating him to loving him again. And I love the interactions between Londo and G'Kar.

Unfortunately season 5 doesn't live up to the quality of the rest of the series, but of course you'll want to finish it out now anyway.

No, no, no. If this is your first viewing, do NOT watch "In the Beginning" first, unless you want major spoilers for things that come later. That movie was written later as a prequel and should stay that way; putting in it chronological order is a mistake in this case. Also, you will most likely be confused about what is going on.

Here's an alternate suggestion:

The Gathering
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Movie: In the Beginning
Season 4
Movie: Thirdspace
Season 5 (first half)
Movie: River of Souls
Season 5 (except last 2 episodes)
Movie: Call to Arms
Season 5 (final 2 episodes)
Series: Crusade

There's some debate about whether to watch In the Beginning after season 3 or 4, but either will work and either would be far better than starting with it.

After thinking about your post, and thinking about the movie, I agree completely.

I loved this show.

Freaking badass Vorlon. Loved the scene when the Vorlon came out of his suit. As well as when the Shadow's came in to take out the Vorlon embassador.

Also my Favorite Character was Gaelen the Technomage

Babylon 5 is the show that made me switch from engineering to doing visual effects and 3d. Show was done with lightwave , at the time the most capable product that existed.

I enjoyed it now that I'm older than when it first aired. It was a bit talky and slow for me at a younger age.

Season 5 still sucks though.

Fantastic characters. I used to use Zathras as my user name on a SciFi Forum.

Mira was hauntingly beautiful. I think I liked her in the early episodes without hair even better for some reason.

I still haven't watched season 1 . . . it bored me beyond watching it when it was first broadcast. In recent years I watched seasons 2 through 5. Nothing much happens in season 5. Seasons 2 to 4 are great, great television.

I don't think television has ever made my heart race so much as when Londo is about to kill the Centauri Emperor. We are beyond the spoiler timeout period for B5, right?
