The best motherboard for P!!! 700 cb0 ??? (wanting to overclock)

Currently I have a AsusP3V4X - its slot one and I just came across a socket P3 700 (100mhz)

I need advice on a good mobo for overclocking this chip...

CUSL2 all the way. Runs very stable at 933 without even trying. I have not tried to push it yet at all.

cool, I was also wondering if I must have the best of the best ram

currently I am using some generic ram (PC133 - Texas Instruments) on a duron 600 overclocked to 850 and it runs perfect,,,

do you think it will work fine on a P3, or is the memory quality requirement much higher for a Pentium?

Keep the P3V4X and get a MSI slotket. Why spend more money for a margional performance increase? If you use beta4W to enable 4-way interleave with the via chipset, the memory performance is within 5% of BX.

Im sorry but could someone explain what beta4W is?

I unfortunately have an Asus Slocket. it has jumpers on it for the voltage settings...


can I leave them as default and just set the voltage through the bios?

Also, is there a recommendation for the AGP multiplier?

I have heard to go with 1/2 but isnt there a setting in the bios that I need to use?

Keep the P3V4X and get a slotket,MSI,Iwill, or other. No need to get a new mobo.Beta 4 Way is memory tweak program to enable 4 way interweave for your memory. Give it a try. Good luck

The small performance gain from going to the P3V4X will not be worth the extra money. Keep it, it's a fine board. That said, I probably sound like a parrot, but that's the truth. The CUSL2 is a great board, if you really have to, but if it were me, I wouldn't switch until your next major upgrade. 😀

Just built a p3v4 for my son with a 650e slot1 runs at a very nice 910. The slotket adapter shouldn't hury oc from what I've read. Used mushkin 150 cas2 ram and running at 140 fsb. Save your money. He loves it and the stability and he is a system admin at NCSU.

Ok, so I have an Alpha, but I got an Asus slocket. anyone have experience with these?

They have a jumper on the slocket for the voltage. but thats about it. Do I need to manually set the jumper on the slocket to overclock?

Can the P3V4x be overclocked through the bios alone?

Yes, you can do all the adjustments you will need in the bios on the P3V4X, cpu voltage,fsb. If you don't have the book for the mobo you can download it from here Asus download site. good luck

Well for starters i am Biased Asus is the only manufacturer that i have had work 100% of the time and i have tried all of the best and not so best.

The CUSL2 is your best option because while thier is a limit to voltage i think it is +30% thaqt is enough and it has bios options to 210 Toms got the board working at 183(wow!!!) and he says it was because that was the limit of his 600 cB0. Sadly your 700 will never go up that high (sorry man) but any board that can reach that high has to be stable at those lower speeds(not always right but is in this.)

So the winner is ASUS

P.S. if your going to buy Intel then your better off with this Value segment chipset (better then the 133a in the P3V4X)which also doesn't work any faster then 150 fsb.

ah but my problem is still this (this is what I have gathered from the comments so far...)

Do I:

Set the jumpers on the slocket to 1.7 (CPU default is 1.65)

then try and "fool" the bios by upping the voltage more by adjusting the slocket voltage?

Or, does the bios recognize the slocket voltage and disregard the "actual" CPU voltage?

the set the fsb through the bios...

Also, I see how to set the AGP divider in the bios: 1/1, 3/2, or 3/4 but how do I adjust the PCI?
