VERY STUPID QUESTION :
I started the game yesterday, very atmospheric and very linear would be my first thoughts.

The question is : How do you enter the sewers ?

I got the key from Therese from Asylum night club but, crouch or not, I can't do anything with sewer manholes, only walk over/around them !

Is my game bugged as a "enter sewers ? Y/N" pops up when you were atop the manhole or do you have to be in a certain position to be able to use the "E" key ? (this last thing is really tricky sometimes ! As to read some papers or pick up some items, you really have to be at a certain very precise position...)

Please, help a noob Tremere !

thats the shame about games. price of entry is way too high to bother experiencing just that one good bit.

Watching the bottom center of your screen you will see the symbol of a open manhole when your in position. Press "e" then.

Thanks Luigi, that's what I feared, the damn "circle" for "e" pressing just won't display !!!
ARGH !
Even with the latest patches, this is still buggy as hell (appropriately) !
Maybe I should reload a previous save (in Asylum ?) and come back to a manhole, maybe the icon will, this time, magically appear...

Other example, the red car's trunk (parking in Santa Monica, thin blood quest), impossible to get the red book inside, by randomly pressing "e" I could, ONCE, try to grab the tire iron bar (which, of course, I already had) but never the red book... OMG.

Some manhole covers aren't access points to the sewers, just something to be aware of.

Personally, I never had a problem trying to grab anything from the car's truck. You did have the quest to get the stuff in the car right? If not, you can get it from E, one of the Thin Bloods on the beach.

This really shouldn't be a huge problem for you, although I'll agree the car trunk was a little touchy. This isnt really consired a bug in this game. Please try the manhole just outside the bloodbank door (I know that one works). And get back to us if your still struggling with this.

This sequence was the scariest for me as well of any game I've ever played. I kept saying to myself "I'm a badass fvcking vampire that can fvck with anything I come across" to try to bolster my courage, I was so scared.

Ya, Its done well isn't it? Like others have said Theres really nothing new here but the tension builds and the story unfolds. its just really well done and I think the real test is that it replays so well. Knowing what you need to know it still plays so well. as a matter of fact I think I'll go give a Bruha a try or mabee a malk.... Did I mention I really like this game? Surely I did. Mabee you"ll like it too.

Most of the game was very good, except for the sewer combat section
I loved that section - a great chance to test your Vampire's melee and ranged combat skills.

OK, solution to the problem WAS stupid : "mouse view", while pressing the m key, move around the mouse to be able to look UP and DOWN !!! Why isn't that documented in the manual or read me (for the french version, at least !) ? It's only in the "key map" on the back of the manual, with no explanation at all...

Of course, with this, I could enter the sewers with no problem.

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone !
The SMonica sewers were beautiful !! (water effect, my previous PC had a radeon 7500, so I'm discovering the fabulous world of shaders now with my brand X700 equipped laptop)

The hotel sequence was quite good, but not as scary as I thought... in fact, I got more scared in the Hollywood Cybercafe with those shrieking two-legged demons jumping all of a sudden for your throat !

I just arrived in Chinatown and admit having a little hard time (but no show stopper) with enemy automatic fire.

Luigi, with that kind of pseudo, I hope you will not be too mad at me for persuading Flayton that this italian food was crap ;)

Oh, some gameplay issues set aside, Vampire really rocks !!

I had the most fun as a malk. The dialogue is hilarious. :)

It's interesting how these 2 replies are right next to each other...

Yeah, the malk had some great dialog. Kinda reminded me of Brick Tamland from ANCHORMAN.

"I killed a guy with a trident."
"I ate a big red candle."
"I pooped a hammer."

Another  vote for the Asylum Level in Painkiller. Not too much in the way of suspense, but it was scary. With the loud Rage Against the Machine type guitar rifs, and 5 different types of monsters. (Well that, and guys walking on the ceilings.....) Made for a fantastic half hour in my book. One of the best levels I've played in a year. It's pure chaos.

I have played some scary stuff, and by far the Ocean House Hotel from Vampire Bloodlines takes the uber cake. I can't think of anything scarier. That level is THE best level I have ever played. At first, I was so scared I had my friend play it for me, then my sibling, and then I finally attempted it. The atmosphere they did with that level is absolutely incredible. Nothing else compares to the atmosphere in that level. Mind blowing.

It's kinda funny. I got into the game not expecting it to be scary, and then I got to this level. I stumbled in, thinking it was a standard quest. I approached the door to the mansion, and the lightbulb explodes to my right. That unnerved me quite a bit. I entered and the chandilier falls from the ceiling. Strange level.... I then explore the hallway to the left which ended in a dead end. But then I heard a voice behind me. I flicked my mouse around to see what was there, and BAM there is the killer staring me in my face before it disappears. Stupidly, however, I kept going. I crawled up the staircase to fall through the floor. Now I was in the dark basement. I proceeded on through the basement, gripping my mouse, and leaning away from my monitor. Once the ghost girl skittered past me at the intersection, and then soon after disappeared, I had hit the ESC key, and exited the game completely. This was some scary stuff. Thought I would share.

Another part of the game that I felt had great atmosphere was the museum raid and the original sarcophogus level on the boat. What happened on this boat? Something very very bad.

The graphics in this game are incredible thanks to the source engine. The facial animations are absolutely breath taking. Incredibly realistic. There was on part in the Ocean House Hotel, where the room fades away, and you are standing outside. Out in the distance there is a rotating lighthouse beacon, shining through the burnt out room. Breathtaking. The music/sound is well done as well.

Scarier than Resident Evil and System Shock 2 I think. The game as a whole is also awesome. My favorite game of ALL time is Deus Ex. I have played Deus Ex 2 times through, and have completed Deus Ex Invisible War as well. This game reminds me so much of Deus Ex. The modern punk atmosphere. The action/RPG/FPS blend. Incredible. It's sad that so few games fill this genre gap. There are only 4 action FPS RPG's like this. Deus Ex, Deus Ex IW,System Shock 2, and Bloodlines. Thief kinda fits....but it doesn't have the skills. Can you guys think of any more?

I guess because I just got to hollywood and the above poster is saying it so well. Lets talk about VV (everyone likes to talk about VV). Its the facial expressions, personality, as it blends into the game. She comes off as a nice girl with a selfish streak. I have known so many strippers/dancers with just this personality. These characters are real. Its easy to get drawn into this game as the characters are so well done. These engines are fairly new, the stories they can tell. Well just consider the experience of playing this game vs reading a book telling the same story. And I like books!!
