The best glam metal band from the 1980s?

Ehh, not a big glam rock fan, but, I did quite Like Pantera's "Power Metal" album (which is generally considered Glam Rock. Pre Phil Anselmo era, sounds NOTHING like the heavy metal they did in the 90s.)

I never cared for Geddy Lee's voice, but the band (Rush) had phenomenal skill. I like GnR, but I also like to make fun of them.

I do a pretty good (and obnoxious) Axl Rose impression. It use to get a lot of laughs at the bar when someone played GnR on the juke and I would sing along, lol.
 
Not really into this kind of music. As far as the 80's, I like a few random tunes from pop bands on MTV, but mostly stuff from artists from the sixties and seventies that were still active.
 
I'll have to go with Motley Crue.

They were by far the most extreme of the Glam Metal bands. Their concerts were great. I have seen 3 of them. The Canada only Dead of Winter Tour 2010 was fantastic.

What is wrong with you?! Crüe ranks as the worst concert I've ever been to in my life. I've never seen so many dickheads gathered in a single place at one time, and the "music" was ear bleeding loud :^D
 
80s ruled.

Weekend road trips to go fight somewhere in the southeastern U.S.
Surfing and skateboarding.
Getting my first steady girlfriend.

The Police, The Clash, Scorpions, The Cars, Blue Oyster Cult, Ozzy, Van Halen, ACDC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Devo, Depeche Mode, ZZ Top, that kind of stuff was what I'd personally buy. I would listen to whatever my friends and GFs listened to though. MJ owned the world at that point, there was no escaping him.

I'll add that many of the "big hair glam bands" moved out of that genre because their style "grew up" or they were forced to change because of grunge. Take Cinderella. Their first album Night Songs is a pop centric, big hair album that fits into the pop metal scene. But their next album "Long Cold Winter" and "Heartbreak Station" is very bluesy, and shows their musical maturity. Skid Row has the same progression. Their first album fits into the big hair category, but they deviate from that and their second album is very heavy. Dokken, Ratt and so many other "hair bands" don't change and they all paid the price when grunge ruled the airwaves. Even if they tried to change it was already too late.

I was in high school for the early 90s. I bought the one Def Leppard album - Adrenalize (on cassette) - and then moved on to "alternative." I let the adults have their 80s tunes.

80's had so many excellent genre's
  • Thrash Punk - MOD, SOD, Anthrax, DRI
  • Alt Rock - Husker Du, REM, Violent Femmes, Smiths, Pixies
  • Dark Wave - Bauhaus, Cure, Depeche Mode, Siouxise & Banshees
  • Rap - greatest era ever with PE, NWA, Ice-T, Beastie Boys, DeLa Soul, BDP, LL , 2Live
  • Funk/Soul - Prince, Midnight Star, Hashim, Whodini, Jonzun Crew

I think Van Halen would quality. Led Zep, too. Even Hendrix can't be ignored. Of the ones you name there, Twisted Sister impresses me the most.

Oh, you did say 80's, didn't you? My ideas were from the 70's. Metal has thrived ever since Zep, well, it's something of a nitch thing. As a dj on an eclectic station (with the freedom to play anything that's "legal" as long as I follow certain rules concerning our format) I play it but I play a ton of other stuff, never sequester myself in any nitch.
