I?m looking for suggestions for the best game soundtrack of all time. I?m talking about soundtracks that can stand on their own as true music. For me it?s Quake 2. I keep the Quake 2 CD in my car and listen to it like a regular audio CD, it rocks! What others are out there that I may have missed? C&C Generals has a good theme song but I?m not that impressed with the rest of the songs. Any suggestions?

I think a better question would be best original score from a game of all time.

Depends on the music. I personally think Medal of Honor is the best game soundtrack of all time, but it's orchestral, which I'm partial to. GTA:VC has the best Compilation from outside sources soundtrack. Quake II, like you mentioned, is the best grunge/metal soundtrack I've heard.

Of course, from the past MIDI days, I enjoyed Civilization, Space Quest 3, Nova 9, and Leisure Suit Larry 3.

What about Castlevania IV, Super Mario Bros, Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, or Chrono Cross?

It's kind of hard to pinpoint what's the best out there. But there is a LOT of good stuff!

I would have to say Quake. Super eerie and dark. trent Reznor rulez! The music SO fit the game.
