HI

I read anandtech guide to firewalls. According to this site the most recommended firewalls by members are Sygate Personal Firewall and Kerio Personal Firewall. However I have read reviews provided by Anandtech that Zonealarm Personal Edition is better.

I have downloaded and used the Zonealarm pro version and find it bogs down my system and its very annoying to use.

What do you guys suggest?

I use ZoneAlarm Suite 6.0, I have no issue with it and also I like sysgate personal firewall on my laptop but it have some issues with AntiVir and Firefox. I can't find which to blame for problem..

Yes I hate how zonealarms bogs your system at startup, but then overall its very good, I swore by sygate for so long, then when my new rig came, it was giving me sooooooooooo many problems online, I uninstall and all went away. I prob will stick with Zone for a while.

Any hardware (IE not running on your PC) firewall is my suggestion. A linksys firewall/router, IPCop, m0n0wall, redwall firewall, shorewall, wolverine, etc.

I personally use IPCop (but i'm actually working writting my own in my spare time based off gentoo), but most firewalls are the same. Just pick one, put it on a old p166-233 with 64megs of ram you can find/buy for less then 100.00 And have fun.

Zonealarm I'd say - solid and simple.

Though I'm stick with version 5.5.094.000 as version 6 is still buggy (typical for a new release for zonealarm co)

If I couldn't use Zonealarm, I'd be using Kerio 2.15
