HL2 looks great even on mediocre hardware. You also get numerous games in the package for one price. Its a bit short but you can play CSS, DOD, TFC, HL2 Deathmatch online multiplayer because they all come with it.

every time one of these threads come up i still have the same thing to say.

I haven't played a better MP FPS than Soldier of Fortune 2. Nothing even comes close to that game at all. That game was just perfect.

they really need to make another one or update it somehow. It would be an instant hit.

Just finished playing F.E.A.R. (got it for $24 at best buy). Wow its a great game, best fps I have played since the original Half Life. Good and unique story, good scripting, good length. Graphics are good, not as nice as HL2 or Doom 3 but very nice and the particle effects are amazing.

They did a really good job setting the mood and scaring you. They dont just rely on the darkness either (like doom 3). There arent a massive amount of enemies but i never felt bored.

If you like story driven shooters its a great one. Worth $24 for sure.

Riddick was a game that I was really impressed by. I was expecting...well...nothing from it at all but then I started reading reviews and everyone loved it! An excellent game IMHO. Uses the same engine as Doom 3 I believe, so it's pretty sharp. Wish there had been a multiplayer component!

FEAR...in my mind it was pretty stupid. I played it for a few minutes and then realized that it was nothing new and dumped it. Multiplayer on that game is tremendously boring...

Max Payne is a 3rd person shooter but it's pretty good. Although I'd suggest rushing through the first to get to the sequel. Max Payne 2 was one of the most thuroughly enjoyable games I've played in a long time.

I'd steer clear of Doom 3...game is way too linear. Might as well have you on a leash and force you to go in one straight line through the game. Multiplayer is pretty fast paced but ultimately you'll get bored with it after a round or two.

HL2 was very good as well, and the bonus is that you get CS:S for free on top of it. Great if your big into multiplayer games.

Far Cry was a let down as well. Probably only because it was so hyped up I was expecting something new. It looked pretty but played like the majority of FPS games. The palm trees were a nice touch though. Multiplayer was pointless.

I've never played CoD2's single player but I have played the multiplayer a few times. It's fun but nothing new. Run, shoot, kill, die...rinse, repeat. I've always been a fan of WW2 games though so I can still find some enjoyment there.

Bout the only game I play anymore though is Star Wars: Jedi Academy. Single Player was not fantastic by any means but I don't think the multiplayer lightsaber fighting ever gets old :p

Half-Life (original), BF2, BF1942 -Desert Combat mod, Call of Duty series, PainKiller, Quake 3 Arena, and FPS nirvana (imho) UT2004.
And though technically a TPS (third person shooter) the Max Payne series is awesome as well. I just hope the movie they are making does the games justice.

Haven't played HL2 or Far Cry yet. But since I now have a rig capable of blasting through them I'll give em a shot.

FPS....

Ultima Underworld!!!! =)

Half-Life 2 is easily one of the best FPS single player games of all time. EASILY. And I played it through on the Xbox (my pc is junk).

Played the F.E.A.R. demo on the X360 and I thought it was amazing...

But as far as my favorite FPS.... Metroid Prime 1 & 2. Sure the controls blow, but the boss battles own everything else. Final boss in Metroid Prime [1] is simply badass. Same with Meta-Ridley right before 'em. Corruption will be AMAZING with the new controller.... especially on my 55" HD. Also the atmosphere.... the music of this series dominates all others. The only FPS in terms of atmosphere that is the same (if not surpassing it) is Chronicles of Riddick (which I never finished =( )

Halo 2 single-player is good, not badass. Multiplayer is very good...

Upgrading my pc and I think I will get FEAR, UT2004 and maybe HL2. Probably just get it for the X360 after they port it.

MP1 was fantastic, 2 was a major letdown. Didn't feel as fluid as the first game, and the new weapons felt forced...and a bit of a stereotypical storyline. 1 will always remain as one of my favorite games ever...I've run through it 6 or 7 times.

I totally agree with all your comments. I hated all the 2-dimensional "characters" in Echoes... what makes the Metroid games spooky is that your ALONE on these planets exploring, finding and killing things. The "tron-esque" world was cool, same with Dark Samus, it pissed me off you couldn't use her...

It didn't really seem like a sequel... kinda contrived. But it got so many things right, that I still loved that one. Hell they even implemented the screw attack well, the enemies were cool, boss fight were all good (cept the final push-over boss).... but yeah, didn't feel truly Metroidish.

Isn't Metroid Prime called so because the final boss is METROID PRIME?!?!? Why would you continue the "series" if you already killed Metroid Prime? Doesn't make any sense.
