Deus Ex is not a shooter. Its a role-playing game with a camera set in the protagonists head, most of the time.

As for actual shooter games: Doom. Maybe Duke 3D.
I have not spent nearly as much time on any other game as I have Doom. Duke3D was superior in many ways, but I dont think I spent as much time playing it.
The good thing is both can be played in a Win32 environment. I have Doom 95 along with the WAD's for Doom 1 and Doom 2, and I also have the Win32 executable for Duke 3D.

Good times.

Actually, Serious Sam 1st and 2nd were assloads of fun too. Huge, beautiful landscapes, literally thousands of monsters per level, sometimes a hundred or more on screen at once, pretty slick secrets (some of which were easy to find and funny as hell) excellent variety of monsters and many cool ways to kill them. The guns went back to old-school where you didnt have to reload most of them.

I think I change my vote to Serious Sam.

For single player, Turok 2 is thee clear leader. Masses of weapons, different enemies, played well and certain little touches made a good game into something more.

Multiplayer, Quake 1/2 or Red Faction with a special mention for C&C Renegade which offered something different.

Congratulations for the trolling. Please take such comments elsewhere.

I am not a huge FPS fan and have not been since my early-mid teens where I used to compete via. LAN on Q1, 2, 3, HL, CS etc. or online on C&C Renegade or Red Faction.

I do own a console, a Wii in fact which I purchased for such games as Wii Fit, Fire Emblem, Zelda and PES.

Can't argue with DX/VTMB as far as fav FPS/RPG hybrids - they are, far and away, the tops in my book (along with SS2). For more classic FPSes though, I'd have to say SP: HL series, and MP.. really tough call.. loved Action Quake 2 and CS.. TF2 is definitely up there as well.

I liked FEAR the best.

Deus Ex and SS2 were great, followed by HL.

If Thief applies here it shoots to the top of the list.

so its first person and you have weapons in your hand?
good job at explaining such trivial technicalities in a generalized subject.
technically one could mod doom 3 to have health/magic stats and other role playing aspects and people will still call it a god da** fps game.
