Any reviews out on the MPX are on beta phones with beta firmware...Since you need it right now? The MPX is out of the question. Expected release was Q4 2004, but b/c of the massive problems with their MPX220 firmware and the nature of Moto...we probably wont see it until spring.

I can wait probably a month. I just saw the Sony Ericcson S710a which looks very nice as well. CHOICES! Anyone know what the cheapest unlimited data plan is?

I really don't like how the 710 opens, but to each his own. :) Ifr you can wait a month, you might also want to consider the MPX220. It is going to be my next phone, upgrading from the MPX200. Its out now, but too many problems with the frimware. Moto should have it fixed by Jan/Feb from what I hear.

Well after reading through this entire review/thread I've settled on the I-Mate JAM. It is practically as small as a cell phone, and is a very powerful pocket pc. I can interface it to my laptop via bluetooth for wireless wireless internet anywhere. Also, it can function as a voice guided GPS guide, which is extremely helpful for me as I suck with directions. Now I just need to wait for I-Mate to release the 850 version of the JAM so I can use it with Cingular.

I thought you didn't want a PDA type phone?

That merger should be interesting...You'd think they would combine the names like Sprintel or something instead of Sprint Nextel.

Nah, I figured they wouldn't. That just sounds weird. If anything I thought they might make a whole new name but they are already both too well-established for that, so why not just combine the names? So, if you like Sprint you recognize that name and if you like Nextel you recognize that name. Works for everyone! :p

No, they are dropping iDEN for CDMA I believe.

I-Mate JAM
is the one that is in the lead for me right now. The RAZR seems too hyped up because it looks really cool, although I could be wrong.

I don't doubt it is a nice phone, but you're paying a sh!tload for the size/shape. The treo 650 does 50x more things and costs the same...

Well when I heard PDA I thought it meant blackberry/treo. I love the JAM because it is nearly as small as a cell phone, and has so much power.

The Imate jam is ugly. That big LCD screen is begging to get all scratched up by your keys. It is more a PDA than it is a phone.

My vote would be the razr. It looks great and is a flip phone which protects the screen and fits the face much better making it easier to speak and hear with. My first requirement of a phone is that it is a good phone.

oh, fyi...Windows Mobile 2002/2003 were on the PDAs first... ;) And if you thought "PDA functions" meant a fancy calander and a note pad then I hope you know your wrong. :D

If you go to the "smartphone" section of howardforums, there is a very interesting review/thread about the imate if you havn't seen it yet.

Well that's why I'll keep it in the pocket with my wallet :), durr.

I really wanted to go with the RAZR, but it just wasn't the uberphone I was looking for. It looks great yes, and is very thin, but it is really lacking in its software. Put this on top of the fact that my current phone is a motorola T720, which is one of the crappiest pieces of technology I've ever had the joy to use, and I am leaning away from the RAZR. I figure if I buy a RAZR it will be just like when I got my T720. The 720 was new, and one of the first color phones. Everyone was like, wow! a color phone that is so cool. But 1 year later, everyone had a color phone and the 720 was on the crappiest of them all.

The functionality of the I-Mate is far and away better than the RAZR, plus it is not even that much larger than the RAZR.

I hadn't seen that one, I was talking about this one...though they both look like awsome reviews.

That's the SP3i, I want to get the JAM. Although I was looking at the SP3i for a while, and eventually decided the JAM was better.
