The BEST case for the GIRLFRIEND...

Athenatech A100 series - compact, sturdy and uses normal height add-on cards. You could also look at the A106 series, but they come with only 200W... A good mobo to pair with it is the DFI based on the Via KM400 chipset.

Buying your GF a really nice computer with a cool case mod will make her a magnet for the guys. And most likely, she won't really appreciate the "guy coolness" of it. Most women I've met seem to prefer the smaller, sleeker things like iBook's, Mac Mini's, or other SFF stuff. I wouldn't waste your time for something only you'd appreciate. Unless you know her inside out, best to involve her in the process, that way, she can't bitch when its not what she wants. (jeez, I'm getting bitter in my old age. . .)

get a SFF 🙂 can't go wrong I just built my GF a SN45Gv2 Nforce 2 Ultra 🙂 She loves it and right now it's silver but I bought some paint and pixie glass to make her a case window and paint it any color of her choice 🙂 Girls go gaga for SFF!!

Just ran across this review Enermax Venus - what an appropriate name! I hope it comes in colors besides black - generally, females (other than goths) don't care for black things (shows dust too much and deadens the environment). The PSU is the EXCELLENT Enermax 270W (20A@12V!, 20/24 pin ATX connector, etc, etc) unit that usually costs over $50. by itself...
. Until I see something better (now that the great Silverstone mini-Berserker LED has been discontinued), this case will be my benchmark in this category. Not mentioned in the review was the fact that there are rubber mounts for the HD/FD - don't know about the 5" bays. The only case in this size with dual 80mm fans on the back (others have 60mm). Comes with rubber fan mount pins. One niggle, no intake fan...

. Yes, Newegg has them and they DO come in colors other than black!!! Unf, they don't use the word Venus in the description so you can't search on it (I just wrote a note to newegg about it). Here's a link to the silver/blue one: Venus .

. You can stop looking now... 😀 When she sees this thing and her eyes alight on the little nameplate - well you better have a raincoat handy for little Davey, as there will be little computing done right away... 😉

p.s. Just went to the mfr's page - god do the Enermax designers have a strange color sense - check the all-mustard one... .bh.

"sigh" maybe I will regret this later.

My gf is almost about to head to college. Instead of going to the Dell route as many are starting to, I'm going with the old-fashion way and building a computer for my gf as a congratulations.

However, I'm just wondering...what is a good case for the ladies? I mean I see all the hardcore ones for the guys but is there any "cute" ones?

Ladies of AT, speak up!!

Well, I can only tell you that I built a Shuttle SS51G for my gf 2 years ago. Now she's my wife and she's still loving that little box. It was inexpensive to build, compact for a dorm room or a bedroom in a shared apartment, and even tho its socket 478, it still has _plenty_ of power for her to do everything she would generally want. Heck, my wife plays EQ2 on it almost constantly 😉

Shuttle or a small black case like the Antec Sonata.

Unless she is CRAZY for a particular color (ie. everything in her room is pink). The I would stick to the basics of black and silver. Making women happy isn't easy. I just try not to screw anything up too bad and I think you should go this route as well.

I'd probably go for a small shuttle system.
I'm not really a fan of those riced out computers that some people love, so if you don't go for a sff pc my next choice would be a coolermaster pratorian.

Instead of the shuttle, check out the aria... With that, you're not locked into one (or two) mobo's to pick from. That will make it a lot easier to upgrade in the future. It will also make it so that you can go with the processor YOU want, along with a mobo you like.
