The BEST case for the GIRLFRIEND...

"sigh" maybe I will regret this later.

My gf is almost about to head to college. Instead of going to the Dell route as many are starting to, I'm going with the old-fashion way and building a computer for my gf as a congratulations.

However, I'm just wondering...what is a good case for the ladies? I mean I see all the hardcore ones for the guys but is there any "cute" ones?

Ladies of AT, speak up!!

you might want to think about some custom case modding. Do a standard case with a side window but do a metal grill decal of Hello Kitty or something. have the case colored a pastel green as that is pretty neutral and not too girly. outfit the inside with cool cathode green light and maybe a green led case fan where the hello kitty grill is located. lots of custom work but just an idea to get you started.

lmao..
I'd just get a stylish black/grey case or something.

my GF likes the cases i usually use for work PC's, so that's how I know. 😛

Oh yeah, TONS of knowledge here on that subject...

As for getting a case that's been 'girlified' or made 'chick ready' I think you need to find out what SHE wants (from her) first. All you need to do is make a girly case only to find out she wants a 'manly' case. Of course you could put a rubber cuke on top of the case, for when she feels 'lonely'...

Lol, just make sure you get a steady case steel case then, no aluminum could hold up to that kind of... um.... "abuse" 😉

I think my Lian-Li case will... With 2mm thick side panels and all. Hell, I've leaned on it to get up off the floor (don't ask, it's computer related, honest) and it's not budged a nanometer. 😀

Thought about SFF? You can make a Shuttle XPC for about the same cost of a normal PC now.

Just help her buy a laptop by picking up a part of the cost after she applies the educational discounts available from her school.

A laptop is FAR better suited to the college environment than a desktop machine. You can't lug a desktop to a library to do journal research for writing papers or lug it into a classroom to do a powerpoint presentation.

Shuttle is more affordable now then before. and from my experience, she'll love you for it.
just built my wife one, no regrets since. spent around 1200, but i bought quality stuff.

Don't get too caught up into top performance stuff...
value select 3200 ram is fine
you dont need sata2/raid etc
7200rpm hdd is good enough
nice keyboard & mouse is a must
if you are buying a monitor, lcd is a must
there are plenty of "cute" speakers

what's your budget?
and anohter question you will want to consider is how serious of a relationship you are in? =)

wisdomtooth brings up a good point too...
sony and dell have some great subnotebooks that are pretty affordable...

when i build gfs computers i jus go w/ the cheapest decent looking white or black case that comes w/ a decent power supply look at the raidmax cases

You can find Dell Inspiron 1000 and 1150 for $500-700 range. Plus if you look for the rare nice sale you can come away with a 600m or 700m for around $600 as well and those are the "ultra" portable systems.

You might want to check out this Chenbro...Not too expensive...Decent cooling and they look way cool.

Chenbro Gaming Bomb

I built one for a friends girl and she loves it.

If you look around you can find it in blue, green and orange.

Well what do you know...Cheaper than the above link and in the different colors.

Gaming Bomb in colors.

The Dells are a great deal...Really hard to match them spec for spec...But why buy when you can build ???

I hope you guys are either going to be at the same college or ones that are close to each other. The tech support could be both a blessing 😀 and a nightmare :brokenheart:
I hate to say this but... Just get the dudett a Dell.

I'm still voting for a computer with the 'Chowda-boy" mod on it... That would be a system that just keeps on giving it to her. Even if you're spent, she can go to it and get some satisfaction. :Q

HAHA...for sure. Well, I'm not sure what school she will go. I'm at Davis and depending on which school accepts her but she might even go to UCSB. But hmmm....you made me think more, if anything goes bad with her computer, she now has a better reason to have a guy come over to "fix" her computer and she can blame that on me.

D-D-Damn. Dells are starting to look nice these days.

I agree but she already has one of those P7000 Lifebooks in white...expensive but it's perfect for her. "sigh" While I'm busting out with my Gateway Solo 9300 PRO!!

Budget...less than a K...it will be all about her laptop but still, a computer she can stay in her room to chat with me. Hopefully $800? with a LCD? I have bills to pay too.
