Wow, 51 responses and no one has yet even tapped into any genre but rock (BTW, the best rock-n-roll ballad of this generation is Natalie Merchant's "Beloved Wife"). How about the country legends like Patsy Cline's "Crazy" or "I Fall to Pieces," or 80's legends like Alabama's "Love in the First Degree" or Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's "Islands in the Stream" and don't forget current generation stuff like John Michael Montgomery ("I Swear" among others) and Collin Raye's "Love, Me."

The list also misses a ton of the great music before rock become all-powerful... how could you have a list like this without songs from bands like The Platters "Only You" and "Smoke Gets in your Eyes," or Sam Cooke's "Cupid," or the Chi-Lites "Oh Girl" ?

Dreamin of You - Celine Dione

EDIT : this thread made me remember this song, I haven't listened to it in 3 years or so, I have just pulled out of my songs archive and listening ot it right now nice song, it just brings to me a lot of old childish memories 😉
