The BEST and WORST room conditions for computer

I live in Hong Kong, outside temp is usually around 25-33C at this time. Humidity is at 50% low to high 90's.

My room is small 12*6 feet and its facing the East. Afternoon ambient room temp is around 35C. Cannot do anything to cool a duron750@931@1.85v. Used GW FNP50, then a Taisol 742, still idles at 50-52C in the daytime. Idles at 42C at night when a/c is on.

Anyone got the PERFECT conditions😎?

Or worse than mine:Q:disgust:😀?

Worst conditions: In a desert, with lots of blowing dust and dirt, 60C+ temperatures.

Best conditions: Inside a Kryotech Case.

I have a modded case, so it stays within like 2C of ambient.

With a stock TBIRD HSF I am running 1 GHz @ 1.15 (150 fsb), like 41C under load. Im not gonna push it anymore till I get watercoolin luvin.

I was thinking about the bar fridge thing.. because after all the money you can spend modding your case and buying heatsinks and so on.. you might as well get a cheap fridge. It would be quiet no doubt. Only thing... wouldn't you get condensation happening around that hot CPU... right where you don't want it?

I've considered the bar fridge (dorm room fridge) thing. But the fear of condensation kept me away. But then I discovered The Dremel and all the wonderful things you can do to your poor case to help it breathe. No fridge needed.

To answer the original question:
Ever been in a server room, with a raised, perforated floor? It's like 60-65F in there. (Where I work, it's kept at a constant 62F...chilly after a few hours, even for me) Those R ideal conditions. Cool temps, Zero humidity. Forgetting the "fridge idea", get a window AC unit, keep it on high. Keep the room that contains the AC and your PC closed. Keep the AC on 24/7. Pay HUGE electric bill every month.sEnd story on "ideal conditions".

My little apartment is kept at approximately 75F when I'm home. When I'm home I usually have the PC on. Tonight I'm not gaming, so the PC is not sweating. (25C Case temp/34C CPU temp right now). When gaming, the case temp goes up 1-2C (I've got good airflow) and the CPU temp goes up about 15C, thanks to overclocking. OK, enough. I'm tired and 0500 comes early. G'night.

well, it depends I guess on how extreme you're willing to go..

if you want pure aircooling, then I think perhaps moist cool air would be the best type of air.. Moist air can absorb more heat per cubic cm.

so, all you need to do, is go to the north, and have a humidifier, and possibly an air conditioner (depending on how far north you are).

Anywho, for water cooling, all you need is a Geothermal heat source, and if you plan it with your computer in mind, then you'll have a pretty sweet cooling system..

My computer room is in the basement as well and usually it's pretty cool all year round but kind of on the cold side in the winter.

(unless all the PCs -one of them a dual P3-1Gig system w/(2) 21" monitors, (1) 19" monitor, (1) 15" montor, two Cisco routers and few other misc things are running all at once) Then it's kind of comfortable no matter what.

right now, my sytems are upstairs, but it is getting hot once again, and it seems as though my main rigs will be joining the server in my basement.

i would think best would be those crazy northern canadians who hibernate (i mean freeze) during their winter, and put their computers outside to pull off crazy overclocking. Not quite sure how they do it, but I read about it on hardocp once. Also what about putting your mobo in that LN2 stuff that those crazy Japanese use, that's probably a pretty good condition. Well neither of those are room conditions.....🙂

My temp in my house i solidly around 70F degrees.. and temps run about 90-100 F on computer.. i say my temps are pretty good🙂 🙂

i have mine inside my walk in closet in my apt...whew it gets hot in here... temps run around 40's full load...the weather has been horrible lately though...like in the 100s!!!!🙁

Maybe I looked right over it but I am surprised that nobody has recommended a Peltier...just get a little prick (54w) and strap that baby on, problem solved!

And watch it burn out? How to your propose to cool this peltier?

A t-bird system needs at LEAST a 172 watt pelt, and the pelt needs some pretty serious water cooling (real nice radiator or evap tower).

Does anyone at anandtech even use peltiers? I don't think I've met anyone yet.
