The Battlestar Galactica reboot we didn't get

Wow

Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming was a 1999 project from Richard Hatch and an attempt to create a pilot film for a proposed new Battlestar Galactica television series that would pick up where the original 1978 series left off.

And that's not a good wow btw.

Is it just me, or was that trailer exactly what a Star Wars TV series would look like?

I love how they made absolutely no efforts to update the wardrobe, helmets, or anything. Still exactly the same as the original show.

And while it looks pretty bad, it definitely looks no worse than anything I've ever witnessed from those cheesy Stargate shows or pretty much anything else Sci Fi has ever aired aside from BSG (current).

Yeah, that's Battlestar Galactica for ya.

Battlestar Galactica was finally produced in the wake of the success of the 1977 film Star Wars. In fact, 20th Century Fox sued Universal Studios (the studio behind Battlestar Galactica) for copyright infringement, claiming that it had stolen 34 distinct ideas from Star Wars.

Still pretty impressive for a 10-year-old self-made (and self financed) trailer. I'm certainly glad they ended up going with RDM, but you've got to admire Hatch for his tenaciousness.

Actually, look a little closer. There was a cylon ship in there that looked pretty much what the cylon fighters look like in the latest series.

Richard Hatch has contributed a ton to the new show. I don't think it would be around without him. Still, I'm glad they shot that traitorous bastard and his evil lieutenant gaydar.

There's a reason SG-1 went 10 years - it isn't cheesy and it was the best show on SciFi (except maybe the last 2 seasons).

If the series had one more season to work with, I would have liked to see that rebellion drawn out for four or five more episodes. With the fleet splitting tensions rising, civil war...all the good stuff. But, we have like five episodes left, so I can understand why they cut it short.

Ya, SG1 is/was an awesome show. Now if it was Wormhole X-Treme!, I'd fully agree with Nila.

I still think it was a long, slow slide into crappiness when they moved to sci-fi, but it was an awesome show -- but it had a comedic bent that BSG doesn't have.

that was a bit interesting. looked like several of the ideas/designs actually did get carried into the new show.

HE RUNS FROM AN EXPLODING FUCK PLANET

Oh my god, I'm showing this one to all the guys at BSG night. THANK-YOU for this, Queasy. xD
