I just heard it the other day, and I have to say Tool did the best job by far. I was simply amazed. They sure know how to play their instruments. my 2-cents...

Tool did the MI theme? This I am unaware of. SlipperySlope would know for sure, as he's the resident tool expert :p

Just because you get hits does not mean that is wo really did it. Do a search for Magic Carpert Ride remake. It is credited to The Crystal Method, The Prodigy, Moby, Fatboy Slim and a couple others. It was not done by any of them.

The one in the movie and the one on the CD are done by Limp Bizkit. While I am not too fond of most of their music, they did an awesome job on that.

<< But Tool did do a version of it didnt they? Or am I mistaken? >>

Like yakko said, a lot of songs are what I like to call "napsterized" and attributed to the wrong person. Case in point, downloaded a liver version of "Lightning crashes" credited to pearl jam, but upon listening to it, it became obvious within the first 10 seconds that it was NOT Eddie vedder talking, but Ed from Live. An even better find then what I thought before.

I was reading the Tool FAQ at toolshed.down.net last weekend out of boredum, and nowhere it said Tool covered the mission impossible theme.

the limp bizkit one just sampled the bassline. but the song really had nothing to do with the movie or MI2 theme so i thought it sucked. Id say U2.

U2 did the remake of the MI:1 theme, which was in the movie with Ethan Hawke. That was a good song. :D

All I know is Limp Bizkit's version really really sucked compared to the theme from the first MI. And Limp Bizkit sucks and will always suck until they write some music.

MI2 sucked too FYI.
