Pacus get heavier than 40 pounds. And, primarily, they are vegetarians, though they'll eat just about anything. As far as bleeding to death - why? Farmers reach in & lop off the testicles of cattle all the time - they don't bleed to death.

You can buy pacus at the pet store. Most people think that fish don't outgrow their aquariums. Pacus do. They just keep getting bigger and bigger. It's pretty cool once they're large enough to eat whole carrots - you can hear them biting off big chunks. My brother had a pacu - the thing would pick up rocks and smash them into the side of the aquarium, as if trying to escape. It broke one aquarium that way (and was placed in a bucket of water until transferred to another aquarium - barely survived.)
