I'm bored and was thinking of seeing "The Aviator" tonight. Anyone seen this yet? It's supposedly a great movie.

I hate dicaprio but he does a good job in this film. If this does not win best picture I will lose what little respect I have left for the oscars.

Let marty get one too, damn you.

I hated Titanic (except for the part where he draws her :Q)

"Catch me if you can" is good

It was good, IMO. Everybody says they don't like Leo, because that's in vogue. But you have to give him credit, it was good.
The only thing was the film had some issues where all greens looked blue. But maybe it's just at my theatre.

I thought it was boring myself, but then I didn't like any of the movies up for major awards this year.

I don't like him because he's a whiney little bitch, and all his movies suck.

No, the green-blue look was a stylistic choice by Scorsese. I believe he was trying to invoke a feeling of "old film".

Great film, BTW. It has the most horrifying, realistic depiction of a plane crash you've ever seen. DiCaprio and Blanchett give fantastic performances. And finally, I love Howard Shore's score - it's very different from Lord of the Rings, but still good in its own way. :)

It's probably going to get the oscar because Scorsese hasn't gotten a best picture yet and it's major competition, Million Dollar Baby, was directed by Eastwood who has.

What will be a crime is if cate blanchett doesn't get an oscar this year.

Hehe, good thing I didn't go and complain about the messed up colors. I was wondering about that, because the people looked normal ;)

The cinematography ("green and blue", as CRT nerds will understand better :p) IMO was excellent. I dont remember the movie having huge amounts of blue or green, save for that scene in the washroom (+ obvious places like the sky or a beet field)

I agree, Leonardo DiCaprio is a whiny little bitch. I dont like him, and I think that possibly other actors could have done something better with the role (Someone once threw out Johnny Depp and I wondered). Thats not to say that he wasnt good, the guy did research his role thouroughly, and he and Marty work wonderfully together. I found his accent to be pretty annoying and unauthentic thourought the whole movie.

despite all that, this is (IMO) the film of 2004, at least, in terms of the type of films that get nominated for oscars.

Well, I ended up seeing it.

I thought it was pretty good. Not OMGWOW good or anything, but good nonetheless. The scene where he crashed into that suburban house was pretty intense, and I think Leo did a great job at portraying Howard Hughes's eccentricities.

This year wasn't super strong in film in my opinion. Had Aviator came out in the same year that "Titanic" or "Shindler's List" or "Chicago" did I doubt it would have had a chance of winning Best Picture. The fact that it's the front-runner to win this year just goes to show how lackluster 2004 was.

You know you're in for trouble when you see things like this:

Ray - $70 million
The Aviator - $75 million
Million Dollar Baby - $55 million
Sideways - $40 million
Meet the Fockers - $260 million

However, I do think that Leo would have been the easy choice for Best Male Actor if not for Jamie Foxx in "Ray".

Rating: 8.5/10, worth seeing.

jamie foxx is a joke, dicaprio has the best actor win in his pocket. hopefully sideways will win the best picture oscar because it was the best picture of last year. but it wont because the academy is full of retards now and has been since 1995 (titanic 11 oscars?! LOTR 11 OSCARS?! WTF?!)

I loved it when Jude Law messed up DiCaprio's peas. :D

The movie itself? Another fair attempt at greatness, much like Gangs of NY. *** / ****
