That came from the comics. Some stuff you have to keep for the fans.
Oh, of course - and in the comics, SHIELD has a whole bunch of the things.

But seeing it on screen, in motion, instead of on a drawn page, made me start thinking. Watching a movie like this, that's bad. Very bad.

It also made me go, "Hey, the USS Constellation... waitaminute..."

you can't really not do the SHIELD airship... it's been a part of the story since the 60s.

but it is terribly impractical.

So that doesn't make sense, but Hulk, Thor, Ironman, Loki, alien invasion facilitated via cosmic cube does? :p

Don't get me wrong, I shook it off and enjoyed the movie. It's just harder to keep up suspension of disbelief if it's something I actually know about or have experience with.

Same thing happened in the A-Team, when they floated the cargo container with the airbags. Airbags deflate after deployment, dammit, and the fabric isn't airtight. And I have the scars from a couple of them to prove it.

Just saw it. Love it. Great summer action flick!

Especially the scene where
the Hulk smashes Loki to and fro! Had the theater up in arms!

Saw it with my son yesterday. We had a blast! This is the archetype of summer popcorn movies. Broad appeal above average acting and writing and humor.

It'll be interesting to see what Joss does now.

OK so I finally saw this after putting it off for so long.... but, I don't know, was it really THAT good? I'm not the biggest comicbook/superhero movie fan but I don't hate them either, maybe the hype got my expectations up here, I just didn't think it was all that good.

X-Men/X-Men First Class, Iron Man, Batman Begins, Spider-Man... these are fairly recent superhero movies that I consider to be very good, The Avengers just seemed to come up short compared to them. Overall I just thought some of the scenes (even after suspending disbelief) were unbelievable, like what's with Hulk being uncontrollable in one scene and then working together with everyone else 30 minutes later? And all the acrobatics, the perfect Legolas-like archery from Hawkeye while 100 stories high, the fact that Loki(sp?) kept escaping, Iron Man/Thor/Captain America nearly destorying each other yet all seem pop up after take each others blows which still must hurt like hell... I don't know, I just need more then jumping from building to building killing aliens like they've been doing it for years. Fine movie, lots of action, but not my cup of tea. Robert Downey made it watchable above all else.

Banner lost his cool because of Loki's staff. He wasnt the only one pissed on the carrier before the attack. Remember, they were all about to fight each other before the attack, it just takes less to get the Hulk going. So in the context of the plot it was fine. Hawkeye is a regular human super hero who uses a bow, so he would have to be really good with it. As far as the others taking each others blows, well they do it all the time. If they simply went home after taking a shot from someone, they wouldnt be great heros.

I think it comes down to, these are comic book characters. Probably more accurately following the comics physics then other other "dark" interpretations. I thought it was pretty entertaining, and would rather see the sequel than the origin story. Thanos will be a great villain for the next one.

You need to pay attention next time. It was mentioned about 5 times that banner goes out of control when he gets angry for no reason, or if his life is in danger. He never does answer how he controls the hulk normally. Until the very end, which ties into how he transforms so efforlessly.

Hawkeye is a superhuman archer.

Thor is a God, Captain American took one hit to his shield, which completely nullfied Thor's attack, and Iron man is Iron man. The conclusion to that fight was perfectly fine,

I thought X-Men first class was boring as all hell.

This is the one thing that bothered me about the movie too. I LOVED the movie, but this never made sense. And we're not talking about Banner here, just the Hulk. Why is he ready to kill BW for no reason at one moment, but then he's all teamwork the next?

This is from the comics. The more angry he gets, the more uncontrollable he gets. If Banner feels intense pain Hulk goes apeshit.

Remember, Loki's staff. It was agitating everyone, and Loki's big plan was to have the Hulk run apeshit on the carrier. Banner himself was ready to stab people with it before he turned into the Hulk.

It wasn't that. It was the explosion that almost killed banner. That made him uncontrollable.

He was already in an agitated state because of the staff, and then the attack. Banner had no control. I'm pretty sure the staff was integral to Loki's plot, otherwise they wouldn't have shown its effect on all the Avengers prior to the attack.
