I thought the Atrix would only appeal to geeks, but if ATT/Moto stick with the aggressive prices I see, they may have a great platform shaping up

If only it wasn't on AT&T's network :(

$150 from amazon and other retailers... that's amazing for a phone like that.

I have my eye on this phone for replacing my Nexus One, but am afraid that somehow either ATT or Motorola will ding the phone by tweaking the OS (or installed apps/UI) in some way.

Currently I can tether on my Nexus One without having to pay the inane extra tethering fee. I can swallow a tethering fee if it came with additional bandwidth cap, but not without. Course I also think that texting should be treated as part of the data package. With texting I use Google talk to get around having to buy a text package.

Long story short I just do not like how carriers try to add an extra fee for anything.

Except it will be locked down by AT&T and worse likely unmodable given Motorola's last declaration against the modding community.

I was considering it until I called AT&T and they wouldn't offer me unlimited data.

Now I can't decide if I should just wait for the Bionic. I'm considering the Thunderbolt if VZ will offer unlimited data.

Man I want something like this phone. My laptop is on its last legs, and I've love to replace it with something like this. Perfect for what I use a laptop for. I don't have ATT though.

We're actually looking to test some of these at work when they release. They want to try them with XenApp too see if we can replace laptops in some instances for people.

I'm debating whether to get this bad boy or not. I have a Captivate and love it; no problems whatsoever since day 1. But the specs on this makes it so tempting plus I have a few hundies burning a hole in my pocket.

AT&T network...meh.
Motorola phone...meh. Has their reliability really improved from the past? Reviews also shows they have bloated UI's...
The price and features are tempting though, I'd say that.

1) PDA Net is USB tethering. I don't carry my USB cable in my pocket 24/7. You needed root pre-2.1 to do wifi tethering. My S60 and WinMo devices came ready to do wifi tethering.

2) Sure Google Maps works.

I'm not complaining about the OS's inability to do these things. I'm complaining about carriers disabling native phone features and then trying to create a service and charge for those things when they're carrier independent.

GPS is a perfect example. Forget Google maps. GPS communication is cell network independent UNLESS you enable the assisted mode. In tethering, data is data. 2GB tethering vs 2gb mobile pandora is the same damn data.
