LOL! Yes, thanks for pointing out the obvious. Maybe I'll be a bit more specific.

Sometimes when there would be 4-5 guys shooting at one another in close-quarter battles. Do you ever have any difficulties figuring out who's who? There's so much on-screen that I can't tell who's friend or foe. That's what I mean!
Green triangles above their head mean they're on your team, and in your squad. Blue triangles mean they're on your team, and not in your squad. Otherwise, they're an enemy (or if there's an orange-color triangle, an enemy that has been spotted). You can also tell by their uniform if you look close. I just tend to keep a close eye on my minimap and be aware of my surroundings, as well as sounds nearby, in addition to the color indicators.

Ok, I want to get the game, but only if my system will handle it:
My specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 3.1GHz
ATI 4850HD 512MB RAM 256Bit
4GB RAM

So can I play it without it being a PITA?

I had pretty much the same system, but with an X2 5600 instead of a 6000. For me, it was close to unplayable, and I tried resolutions from 1920x1200 down to 1440x900 (yeah, it's still high res, but lower than that and it starts to look like crap on a 24 incher). Definitely CPU limited. I was doing alright on servers running as an engineer as gunner on tanks, but had a hard time shooting in firefights. Mouse movement was jerky. Having no FPS counter, I can't give hard numbers, but I'd guess 15-25 fps?

Just unlocked the an-94 earlier today, that gun is bad ass! Finally I have a reason to play assault. I really didn't like the xm8 and the aug is ok but the an-94 is a great gun. It's so easy to kill with, especially from a distance.

want to add sometimes it's best to do a spot check on what looks to be a friendly

the US and Russians have different costumes but it's not different enough to me (other than the Russian medic with his red hat) that I don't have to rely on looking for triangles. unfortunately, there have been times where due to the positioning of friendlies, an enemy looks to have a blue / green triangle over their head resulting in my death. I actually stared at an enemy disarming an MCOM once because of this.

I've had problems with friend/foe as well. Just gotta try and remember which team you're on (US v. Russians) and remember the differences between for each class:
Medic, both have uncovered faces but hats, Russian is red, US is baseball-cap
Assault, both have helmets but (I think) US you can see the face, Russian is darker and the face is obscured (think tinted windows on a facemask)
Engineer, US has helmet with visor up & LAW-style rocket on his back, Russian has ski mask and RPG on his back
Recon, they're both in ghillie suits so that's obviously the toughest to pick out in a split-second

Speaking of US v. Russian, I finally got the "all-English-please-no-matter-what" setting to work, but after moving to Win7 and reinstalling the game, it won't stick in the menu, keeps going back to "original" no matter how many times I set it to "localized"!

I think you're just better at sifting through all of those information. I feel I can get a bit overwhelmed sometimes.

I spent another 1.5 hours playing today and I still suck. My overall record as of now is 55-145. lol, it's really sad.

Oh yea, how do I reenable the mini map? I hate how I have to press "m" just to see it, but it's too big and blocks my view.

I think that's the biggest problem here. The developer should have designed the costumers differently for each team. It's really stupid to just rely on the triangles to determine who's friend or foe. It doesn't work very well for people like me who just gets overwhelmed by the amount of things on-screen.

IMO, it's a design flaw.

How long does it take to unlock the AN-94 on the Assault class? I find playing assault to be more difficult than medic and recon. In fact, I'm playing a lot better as a sniper. I have no idea why even though I suck as a sniper in CS.

Awping in CS is about reaction time. Sniping in BC2 is about trajectory.

Hmm, don't know why I haven't looked into this game until now. I've heard lots about it, but I simply just never checked it out. Looks pretty fun, I think I'll pick it up tomorrow. Probably not a good idea though, seeing as I start exams in a week.

No matter how much I play I keep sucking balls. I probably have 20 hours of play time and I'm level 8 or something pathetic.

My last game I was 1-14... ugh.

I'm usually decent at shooters but this one just baffles me.

Games feel laggy even when my ping is below 50 which is also weird.

This is probably your problem :

Makes one hell of a difference. Makes you wonder what the guys at DICE were thinking!

The reason is probably that it works great for an XBOX or PS3 controller 😉

If that doesnt fix your aiming, maybe its low fps?

You have to edit the ini file to get it to work.

Bad idea, man. I almost failed a US History class the week Doom first hit the shelves. My final was to write a 10 page paper, on the same computer that Doom was installed on....

running a e2160 @ 3GHz / 4GB ram / 4850 512MB - runs good @ 1680x1050 med settings under xp (dx9). i usually don't upgrade my os on my main rig until i am forced to w/ some software not being compatible w/ what i currently use, so i stay w/ xp and dx9.

even in heavy fights i would say it drops to maybe 20s fps (need to verify) but i haven't noticed it, so i know i am not hitting 15 or so as that is where i can really start seeing a difference. personally, i will probably upgrade cpu before gpu as i am sure i am cpu bound atm (again, need to verify)

Well, I can play pretty well with medium settings. The game is alot of fun, played the SP to get used to the gameplay, weapons, etc. I've got it at 1900 x ? @ 70hz (I think). I may try to tweak it down some to smooth it out. SP is fine, MP can get a bit jittery.
Good to know my system can handle it.

Wow, you got it quick! There are plenty of ways to tweak the game to get smoother gameplay. The legionhardware article I linked to previously tried out some different settings: http://www.legionhardware.com/articles_pages/battlefield_bad_company_2_tuning_guide,6.html. Looks like turning down shadows to low, in addition to using DX9, would be a good start.

FatPat - I was just trying to give him a realistic point of view. I too played at 1680x1050/medium before I upgraded my 8800gt to a 5850. And you've just upgraded your whole system. I think BC2 is the kind of game that encourages gamers to go for broke. It's that good and that demanding. Sure, an X2-6000 and 4850 will play it, but look at how many of us have sprung for new video cards or systems to play this game.

Lol, I did so as well (my new hardware is in my sig), and perhaps I underestimated the power of some of the AMDs and how CPU bound the game is.

I upgraded as well. Went from a Core 2 Duo to an i5 Quad Core (720). GPU went from 8800GTX to 5850. Run at max settings @ 1680 x 1050 and it's amazing.

Huh? Stick the c4 on what? The guy operating the uav?

Yeah, or the uav station. Hardly matters, you can stick it at his feet if you want. The idea is to blow up the uav station while your there. c4 has a pretty good blast radius so it's not too hard. uav station will reappear again later.

I'm kind of annoyed that the monstrosity of a computer I built last year can't play this game silky smooth. But it's decent enough. I just miss the perfect 60fps that I got on MW2 for xbox.

I have a 5200+, 4gb ram and a 4850 1gb.

I can play it just fine. I will tell you this though, my load times are shit. ~2-3 mins to get in but once in, it's definitely playable. I believe i'm using medium settings.
