vsync is on. vsync =/= fps cap.

aclim, the retail wont have a console either, so we have to find a config file where a cvar can be used to cap fps. I tried putting the refresh rate to 59 and 58 in the settings ini, but it always shoots up to 60. Gotta get rid of this mouse lag!

This is from the latest patch:
* Reduced input "lag"
On machines where the CPU would out-run the GPU, sometimes the GPU would queue up several frames' worth of rendering commands.
This could lead to the game having a high framerate, but input still feeling very sluggish.

Now there's a limiter on how many frames the CPU is allowed to be "ahead" of the GPU.
Control this setting via Settings.ini. Default setting: RenderAheadLimit=2


You could try lowering that limit even more I guess.

EDIT: I wanted to add that on the day the patch was released I was able to join servers and play without downloading it. So make sure you have the latest patch I guess.

Usually around 8:30 or 9 on weeknights, for the weekends it depends if I can find anything else to do. I've noticed the chicago servers are usually empty during the week which is pretty lame because I get like 20 ping to chicago servers.

lol man, give me a break here, it was around 3:52 AM PST when I made that post. I just quickly skim through the op. I thought a direct question would be more appropriate. I want to preorder the game and play with you guys or with other people. Seriously, I spent the last 3-4 years in university and I played very few games. Now that school is over, I'm looking to enjoy life again. One of my favourite past times was to play CS and BF2. Since both games are getting a bit old, I want to start playing something new like BFBC2.

I'm always in the mood for a deal, so I checked it out, and followed with an email to GoGamer and got a very quick reply. To those who care about such things, know that the edition on sale @ GoGamer is *not* the Limited Edition (which has the same $50 MSRP) that includes the 6 early unlockables. So if you want the early unlocks, go with Amazon (who *only* carries the Limited Edition), if you want to save ~$7 go with GoGamer.

All you have to do is open the .ini file to see everything is at medium. Its capped at that. I mean it was only mentioned by a dev on the last page....
 
So the new patch definitely improved my performace. I went from 1X AA/AF to 16X AA/AF and still got a stable ~60 fps. However, turning shadows even off low or turning on HBAO just destroys my fps again. I'm not to dissapointed by having to play with HBAO off, but I'd like to at least have some shadows...

And yeah, shadows tanked my fps even at the aforementioned 1X AA/AF. Boo D:

Yeah, but it's nice to not have awful jaggies everywhere now.

Still wish I had nice shadows/lighting effects though 🙁

EDIT: Ok wait, performance has hit the crapper again. I'm having stutter issues even with everything at LOW.

What the hell BC2?

has the game been more unstable for anyone else?

it might just be bad luck since I've also experienced server disconnects, random closes to desktop, and game freezes pre patch, but it seems to be happening at a much higher rate for me post patch.

I'm running with HBAO off as well, to be honest I don't see much of a difference and with as much as a framerate hit it takes I'll just run with it off. I have my shadows on medium and everything else maxed out. AA: 8x AF: 16x and no lag.

is anyone's favorite server list limited to 7 entries? also, once that limit is reached, are you unable to remove entries?

The server browser is weak. You can't sort by ping, or players and it takes forever for the server list to load. I hope they fixed this in the final release. I'm not sure about the number of server limit, I know I have at least 6 in mine.

in bf2 you could sort, i am sure assuming this will be fixed in the final, but i am not buying until i play a demo on pc. i need to play to other styles to see if i get it or save the $$ and just keep on w/ bf2. i know it is not a replacement for bf2, but it works well in between bf2 and mw2 if they fix a few things like you are talking about, and some of the maps are larger w/ planes, and fully open.
 
I like the smaller maps, I guess it just preference thing. In BF2 I would always play on the 16/32 person maps, never touched the 64.
