Q does all of that. Aim and ... Q on a medic to request health, Q on an assault guy to request ammo, Q on a vehicle to request a ride. Q on an engi to request repairs (if in vehicle).
While I'm happy to hear (and this is the first time I've heard this) that the specific "help me" stuff is still there, it's kind of a drag that I have to have a medic in LOS and have to be able to identify him as a medic and then "spot" him in order to ask for first aid. If there's no one in sight there's nothing to be done - no hints on the minimap either. 2142's system was so much more robust, I'm really going to miss it. If I'm on the verge of dying, use the rose to call "medic!" and the minimap would sprout with medic icons showing me where they are so I can meet them halfway. No more. :-(

Where do you download the pre-order stuff? I entered the code and it said they were available for download, but where? I have the game via Steam, if that helps pin point them.
There shouldn't be anything to download - it's "unlocks", which are already there, rather than "DLC". I haven't gotten mine from Amazon yet (I'm a cheap-ass) but you should be able to just register your code then log in with your soldier and your unlocks should be there. Can anyone else confirm?

Can someone tell me where to find the .ini file? I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Also, does anyone know if you can disable bloom?... they use about 400% more bloom than they should and it makes it impossible to see anything!

Yeah, that's right. It's the six unlocks and you get them as soon as you're logged in and playing.

And there are still icons for the differing classes above their heads. You just have to look a little harder for the tiny green dealies.

Dammit to hell EA won't let me use my steam ID of ScooterLibby and I have no idea why (it's not taken). I am stuck with simpsonographic.

Well, different people have different posts per page, so it may not be page 70 for you. But, the answer was three posts before yours! I'll reproduce it here just for you, though:

"my documents/BFBC2 folder settings.ini file Change from Bloom=true to Bloom=false"

Spotting doesn't work on hardcore servers...

Awesome, was wondering the same thing. Thanks for this insight.

Can someone post their settings.ini for the POV line? I tried deleting the file and re-starting the game, but there is no fov or pov .ini line.

Thanks. I was confused because it said the items were ready for download, but I couldn't find anyplace to download them.

If you aren't going through steam make sure you are patched up. It's in the 'settings' file, not 'gamesettings' and it is the last line in that file.

It may not exactly show you in your 'game stats' page, but when you get into a server and choose your kit they should appear.

One thing I've noticed, items appear a lot faster in your kit selection menu. In the beta it was always kind of slow and I'd have to refresh it for it to appear.

Ahh, thanks. I need to patch it. Damn, taking too long though.

ugh crash ruined my greatest game

hardcore is effin LEGIT.

M'eh - hardcore isn't for me. I like the normal game - getting blasted by a sniper from across the map six seconds after I spawn isn't my cup of tea.

Agreed. If I wanted no crosshair, no minimap, no spotting, no NOTHING, I woulda bought a different game (MW2 perhaps?). The increased bullet damage I could take or leave - it's the other, teamwork-enabling stuff that makes the game fun for a slow-twitch guy like me who tends to lose one-on-one toe-to-toe matchups more often than not.

Which is what makes me miss the inclusion in the stats page of team stats (Wins, Losses, etc.?). I don't care that much about my K-D ratio, I care more about W-L ratio. If I play badly and get killed twice as much as I kill, but my team wins, it feels better to me than if I play very well, kill twice as much as I die, but my team loses.

Played all day yesterday. Level 11, finished the unlocks for assault. Working on medic now.

My god when I got the AN94 I was dominating. First round I got it I went 31-1. Every round after that were all high ass ratios.

Hey Zerocool, I'm curious to hear what you think about the map sizes, now that you have played some Conquest? I didn't get to hit a lot of different maps, but Panama Canal seemed pretty damn big. Could be all the nooks and crannies... I played on the ATOT server with Demo24 on the Laguna Presa map for a round, and that map is pretty small.

Yes I was pleasantly surprised with how big some of the maps actually are. I was afraid they were all going to be like Port Valdez but they are not. Some of them are like the old BF games where if you don't get on a vehicle you're pissed.

Also I guess I'm the only one who isn't impressed with the graphics at all. They don't seem much better than the beta and with my system you can bet that I'm running everything turned up.

Yes I hate hardcore servers. The bullet damage is better but no spotting and no mini-map and a few other things make me hate it. What I really hate is that 99% of the hardcore servers don't say they are hardcore servers in their server name and you connect to find out it's one.

I was finally able to get on a server for a while really late last night without connect issues but now I'm getting a crash to desktop which I never got in the beta which sucks.

Hardcore is the only way I can play. I can't stand unloading a 20 round clip on a guy and he's still standing or I only have 3 shots left. If the bullet damage was a little better with non-hardcore it wouldn't really matter to me, I don't even look at the mini map anything else on my HUD.

In my last game I had a personal high score of 2400, I also did one of the coolest things, I launch a 4 wheeler off a rap into a tank. Of course no damage was done to the tank but it must have looked pretty damn cool.

A fix for the 'connect then disconnect' is going out to servers today:

http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc/925089-kick-connect.html

Those of you complaining about server browser refresh times, this was posted in the EA forums by a dev: "No change to server refresh times, that is the server load of players getting server lists."

From the thread:

Bazajaytee said:
Here are a few steps to try to connect to servers:

Uninstall the BC2 BETA
Look in MY Documents for BC2 BETA directory. If it exists delete it.
Look where BC2 BETA was installed, if the BC2 BETA directory remains, delete it.
Try running the game again.

For all the players connecting to servers and being kicked straight away (and pbsetup.exe or manual updating didn't help) then you will be happy to know we are sending out R4 servers to our hosting providers which will hopefully solve this issue.

This is going out to the hosts shortly and then allowing time for them to update you should see connections going back to normal in the next few hours and continuing to spread to all servers during this evening.

Sadly no fix for the "server fills up and then crashes" bug we seem to be experiencing over at Gameservers.com - they say it's not just them but ah, I dunno.

/Farnsworth Good news, everyone!

Apparently, the R4 patch fixed the crashing issue...apparently. I'm not at home to test but jump on into the server and give her a go. I really want everyone to enjoy playing there.

I know some aren't on the west coast but I ping 16 to the server from LA, so the ping times in other parts of the country can't be too bad, right?

i had 1 complete system lock up last night. had to do a hard reboot to get back. played again without an issue.. hopefully it doesn't happen again.

i put in the unlock code that came with my game but i don't see any new items under weapon unlock/customizations..

my game name is: alu| (the pipe character shows up as a weird symbol next to my name).
