Nah man, the BC2 MP gives hell to Dual cores, even with my E8500 OC'd to 3.8, the MP still handles horribly, i've given up.

Yep. This game really shouldn't give my GTX285 any hell, and graphically, it really doesn't.

I had to turn down Environment and another setting, because the game taxes the hell out of the CPU. To run everything at max, there is no way you can do it with a dual-core CPU, or at least, not with the Pentium C2D series. I have a 6420 oc'd to 3.2 or so ghz, this game will absolutely murder this CPU.

I play at max settings with no problems at all. I am usually one of the first people in game when the map changes.

Resolution:1920 x 1080

AMD x3 720BE Triple Core Stock @ 2.8GHz
Asus 4890 Stock
4GB DDR3 1600 Memory

I play 1920x1080 @ 120Hz (was previously using 2560x1440 on my Dell U2711 until my BenQ XL2410T came a week ago)

i7-930 @ 4GHz
2x GTX 470 SLI (stock speeds)
24GB DDR3 1600
with the OS and game installed to a 120GB SandForce Corsair SSD

But I don't use max settings, not that I can't, but I use custom settings to cut out some of the annoying lighting/effects and also to help maintain a frame rate that can better keep up with my monitor.

MP runs like shit on the rig below...I still don't get how...

I already stated it above:

This game, at least for MP (have yet to play SP), absolutely demands more than a C2D, regardless of chip-specific capabilities and clock speed.
C2Q I've heard can run this game well, but it seems the more-capable AMD Tri-core and Intel i5/i7 chips are generally the suggested ones if trying for max settings alongside a fairly-recent high-end GPU.

In your thread reviewing your HD6850, you say you're often at 60fps. That doesn't sound too bad. But what kind of framerate average are you getting? You can use FRAPS to get a min/max/avg report. Try backing off "effects quality" in the options and see if that helps. Switching sound to "small speakers" might also net a few FPS: http://www.legionhardware.com/articles_pages/battlefield_bad_company_2_tuning_guide,5.html

5 gigs of ram is also odd too.

I have to add to the chorus of comments about the dual. I went from an e8400 at 3.8 to a Q9550 at 3.4 and the quad blew it away on BC2. I checked today and all cores were above 79% usage during the game.

not if its a 2 x 512MB + 2 x 2GB

Fire/Smoke effects totally kick the ass of my mobile 5870. Frame rates become a slide show if I am in the middle of fire/smoke. Other than that I am playing with great details at great framerates.

hi, does anyone have a 'fave' driver for the 5850 to play the vietnam mod?

i'm loving the game, but it periodically hangs..

i got afterburner running, even without changing anything, just for monitoring and logging purposes and checking the temps/usage, nothing seems to jump out at me..

currently running 10.10.

to echo what everyone is saying, i was on an e6850 @ 3.6ghz
4gigs of ram and an ati 5850 and it was rough at 1920x1200

the new quad rig is leaps and bounds smoother. so i would say yes a quad core cpu is fully used in bc2

By "hangs," what do you mean? Crash to desktop or just brief pauses? If it's the latter, do you see dropoffs in usage on afterburner? Mine is pegged at 99% always, except when it glitches.

I've been back and forth with various drivers for my HD5850. Had 10.11 working well (which I installed after reinstalling the game itself), then somehow thought it would be a good idea to go to 10.12 for the performance gains. Glitches came back. I don't have crashes, just 1-second slowdowns. In the middle of the game this can really screw you up, but lately it's been mostly at the start of a match.

Edit: See below [I'd hate to have to reinstall the game again, since all the game patches (with Vietnam) now total probably 7 or 8GB, and of course with the new patch system you can't save the patches to your hard drive.]

i'm using 10.12 cats here, no issues
also using msi afterburner for 5870 speeds

Yup, that's what I'm running, except I think I still have some minor glitches...haven't played in a few days (overdosed on BC2 this weekend...started throwing mice around!).

I was wondering how that was working for you. Do you see an improvement compared to the 4850x2? FPS up? Crashes down? If so, congrats. Don't forget to update your sig.

bout the same FPS, but way more stable. might be a few more, i hadnt done a record in a while, I did turn up AA and AF a notch.

i ended up boosting the q9550 to 3.2 from 2.8 too since I just installed a corsair H50

sig updated
