Another question - in one game, a Huey was dominating my team because we could never take it down despite huge amounts of small arms fire directed at it. They said they had two engies on board fixing it, and I could actually see that in the killcam (I was killed over and over by the Huey). But when I tried doing that for my team, I couldn't get our Huey fixed from inside. I pointed my blowtorch in all directions. What's the trick for that?
Only downside is that bolt-action sniper rifles are a bit underpowered without 1 hit kill. You basically only get to kill campers expect on wide open maps. Eg. an akaban or m16 with 4x scope is often more effective than a sniper rifle.
Its definitely much MUCH easier for a good player to survive after getting hit by a few bullets. By keeping close to cover the first signs of damage usually mean you can just duck behind that cover and then react to the situation. It seems rare that you can out shoot someone in this game when they see you first and get the first shot off, not impossible, but usually you should be a dead man. And when you dont kill someone when you shoot first it typically feels like you were cheated. A long winded way of saying I really dont see the difference between normal and hardcore in that regard. The person who would miss the burst shot in hardcore will likely miss multiple bursts in normal mode. It may take less to kill someone, but the ratios are probably the same. I just dont like losing the mini map, spotting, etc, but especially the mini map. I played on a HC server the other day by accident and I couldn't even find the objectives! I also typically end up tk'ing a lot with FF on. Too much detail on the screen to differentiate friend and foe, unlike Halo (red and blue). Shoot first, let the server sort them out is my style, but that doesnt lend itself to hardcore.

Haven't gotten a definitive answer, but I have heard these theories:
--In the right hand side passenger seat, look forward and down to repair
--The helicopter has to be hovering, close to level for repairs to work
just got my vietnam code... tried to load the server browser and it locked up...
is this happening to others?

Keeping the chopper level is the only trick you need, I usually just aim up to repair.
Perhaps you are trying to enter the code the wrong way. It was not how I expected it. Don't log in, then select Redeem Code from the Multiplayer menu. Instead follow the instructions from the e-mail you got with the code:
Redemption Instructions
1) Install the latest Battlefield: Bad Company 2 patch to have the Vietnam menu item available on the main menu screen.
2) Click the Vietnam menu item.
3) Enter your activation code into the code redemption box and click "Redeem Code" to begin playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam.
If that is not it, make sure you are not confusing any "ohs" with "zeroes".
I entered my code in all upper case (like my code), and included the dashes/hyphens.
PS. People seem to have good experiences with EA live chat: http://support.ea.com/chat
It's not black ops. You don't go gun-ho running around charging everywhere. Be patient, work with your squad, use the cover provided in buildings.
Yeah, I got that run-n-gun doesn't work so well pretty fast
My problem seems to be that I just (a) suck at hitting things and (b) the beginning guns seem awful.
try hardcore. u don't need to hit things as much.
Tried that. I just get lost and then get shot.
I guess what really gets me is that I'll see a guy closeby, shoot at him in bursts, he doesn't die and then he turns around and shoots me once and I'm dead.
It gets ridiculous after a while.
aim for upper torso and the noggin to bring them down quick then.
Yup - confirms what you guys thought. Chopper must be level for repair tool to work. This will take some coordination but I'll give it a try. Seems like something they should probably patch, because it's almost like a "hitbox" error. You can only "hit" your chopper with the repair tool when it's level (as it would be on the ground). DICE should either disable repairs in flight all together or eliminate this quirk, IMO.
