I'm posting from a mac laptop using an AirPort- it's really sweet actually! It's quite fast too!

It's hooked up to my SMC Barricade router and is getting just as fast of speeds as on my PC with a 10/100 NIC with cat5.

I'm impressed actually!

Haha, btw, this is a pimped out G3 400 laptop- normally with 64MB RAM- now with 576! hahahahah! It's actually pretty nice...good looking 14" LCD too.

It's just a lil annoying...cuz it's MacOS. ;)

It's just standard 802.11b, right? It's available on PC, it just doesn't have a fancy name.

Yeah.. any standard 802.11 compatable wireless LAN card will work perfectly on AirPort networks. Lucent makes one, so does DLink and Linksys I think. ANd 3com..

*Shrug*

and it's 12MBps I believe... a little slower than 100Mbps, but still respectable

Yeah, it's standard 802.11, it's just cool. :p Lucent has an "AirPort" out (coming out?) with a 2350ft range aparently. This stuff is my sister's boyfriend's (he is a mac consultant)- and it's damn cool!

The bandwidth isn't that great. Also I read somewhere that the encryption strength was too low for you to use it to transmit sensitive data such as credit card numbers.

That would be "banned".. a band is a group of people playing instruments and singing.. :)

Surfing from a notebook right now with a D-Link 802.11b USB adapter in this and in the desktop upstairs. Very cool. 11Mbps is faster than the cable modem.

As for security, there are a few holes. I would not fear transmitting my credit card number or anything else sensitive occasionally, but I would not use 802.11b in the workplace on a continual basis. My thoughts.
