I get that it has a lot of off-road capability, but it's like a Mercedes SUV. You're never going to take it off-road or use it to haul because it's too expensive to screw up, and that means that what you bought is a really poor driving, really expensive, really slow, really crude street car. So you'll drive it on the road, except you can't commute in it because 11 MPG. So what you bought is a slow but fun, impractical weekend road car...
... in this case, the answer was most definitely Miata.
While you have some valid points, I'd like to add some commentary from someone who did seriously consider buying a raptor. I made a thread here when I was looking at them and got several similar comments to yours.
1. It isn't all that slow... Given that it is a truck. It isn't that far off of the miata which is a great momentum sports car but is relatively slow when compared to other sports cars. It's one of the slowest but with great handling. The raptor is plenty fast for DD duty.
2. Affordability is subjective. I can afford to take a raptor off road. Many other people can too. They aren't crazy to insure or maintain and have great resale value.
3. MPG isn't as important to some people. I have a seven mile commute. I don't care if it gets 11 MPG.
4. Depending on your lifestyle, a truck can be very practical. It's not like a miata is a super practical car lol.
5. Nothing about the raptor's interior or ride is crude..
6. The raptor is perfect for taking the family and some toys to the lake, mountains, etc... Price wise its similar to a high end american SUV. If you drive 100 miles a day by yourself and have no need to cart anything... Or park in the city a lot... It isn't the most practical vehicle... But as enthusiasts we often don't buy the bland but practical vehicle.
