I actually never played bombing run so I have no idea how that is.

I'll tackle this one though I'm not sure everyone will agree. I played BR almost exclusively in UT2k3 for about a year and most of that was in a competitive clan. Frankly, while it can be fun to play NW BR, the map included with the UT2k4 Demo is a travesty. It's too big and too wide open. Now, don't get me wrong as I've played it a few times.

You can have fun with it, but as someone who's played BR with every imaginable combination of settings on dozens of maps, the best way to play BR is high-speed instagib. I know IG has been demonized in UT2k3 and many are calling it the downfall of the game. However, everyone playing IG and nothing else was more a symptom of people's dissatisfaction with the gameplay than anything else. Unfortunately, the learning curve when playing at high-speed with a low-grav and xloc is pretty unforgiving. An experienced player will flat out embarass you.

It's really an interesting situation. Most players probably hate low-grav and instagib and dismiss BR as ruined by "trans-monkeys", but if you actually get acquainted with the small community that plays it religiously, you'll begin to realize that you're in the company of some of the most skilled players in UT2k3. I'm certain that you'd have a similar experience with most gametypes, but as BR was marginalized moreso than anything other than DDom in UT2k3, it's much more difficult to appreciate.

Now I left iBR in favor of DM/TDM about six months ago, and I can honestly say that the quickest, most accurate, and most complete players I've encountered in the game were iBR players. I don't mean to take anything away from iCTF players or players of any other gametype, but this was my experience.

Finally, I'll chip in a bit for the server and I'll be happy with pretty much any gametype. For the record though, I think playing as many different gametypes as possible will only make you a better player. Sure you can favor ONS, but I promise that if you meet me out in the open without your shiny tank, I'll make you regret skipping over those DM/TDM matches.

Well, that's one man's opinion.

Cliffy's Notes
Bombing Run in the UT2k4 Demo is a mere shadow of what it will be in the full version. Give it a try to get a handle on the dynamics, but it won't be at it's best without mutators.

Don't dimiss DM/TDM offhand because there's alot to learn from these gametypes.

I loved BR in UT2K3, and coming from exlcusive CTF from the demo days of UT, BR was all I played, for the relatively brief time I played 2003. UT is still my favorite, but 2004 is quickly catching up.

Oh, and instagib is the only way to play. I hat eplaying weapons, though it's not that bad in 2004.

My suggestion for the server would be to add all the game types on a rotation, EXCEPT Assault. I played on the map yesterday afternoon, and no one could figure out WTF was going on. Definitely avoid that game type. Everything else is cool, though.

i think having onslaught a few extra times on the map rotation would be a good idea. you'd still have other maps, but onslaught would load more frequently.

I understand Assault, but there's just too many objectives to complete in that map, & the one problem with that assault map is how linear the map is, there's only one way to get to the objective, no real tactics can be applied to this map, just run down the corridors or walkways flip a switch & continue, meanwhile getting fragged 50 million times before times up, I hope the other Assault maps are better, because from all the hype about 2004 bringing back the Assault mode from UT, this will be a big disappointment for many if they aren't better maps. I liked onslaught though kinda reminds me of Overload from Q3TA, but with the addition of the powernodes instead, never tried online though always got my ass wasted offline by the bots on easiest settings everytime, even using cheats still got wasted.

Yeah, instagib, I'm with you dude, love the weapon, in fact I sleep with one under my pillow every night, LOL!!!

One of my other favorite Mutators for UT2k3 was the lower powered rapid fire lightning gun, pretty effective weapon!!!

I don't understand why people have a hard time with assault. It gives you directions multiple times in multiple ways. when you join/start it tells you whether your attacking or defending and what to do. There is also a nice little text list that tells you what to do, and if thats not enough there is a permanent indicator of where your supposed to go the entire map; not to mention all the points of interest are lit up.

both sides get to attack and defend, attacking is almost always harder than defending but its not impossible in any way shape or form.

I would really like to do that but does anyone what I should do in the config settings to set it up?

in case you guys forgot how the poll went.

gee, lets have bombing run. yup, only 1 person voted on that. lets have a rotation even though onslaught wins by a big majority.

devioustrap: i know you are trying to please everyone, but thats impossible. go with what the poll reads. ONSLAUGHT, make 64.75% happy, thats the best you can do.

thanks for the server bro btw

Except there's only one choice in the poll. Some people do like more than one game mode. I'm sure if a lot of people HAD to choose, as they did here, they'd vote for Onslaught, cause it's so damn fun. Doesn't mean they don't like ANY other game mode.

I hate to sound like a b!tch but are there hacks for this already or something?

Godjoey never missed NEVER. He reminded me of bots set to the highest difficulty. Once he was falling down to the first story and I ran out from behind a corner and before I could even start shooting I was dead.

And before he got there I was owning pretty good.

I'm making an informal request that people use their AT names when playing on the AT server. It's obviously not my server, so of course everyone can do as they please, but I am making the request nonetheless. It's nice to who who you're playing against.
