The American flag is still made by hand?

JEDI

Lifer
I saw a report on CNN today.

One of the biggest companies that make the American flag still make it by hand. Seamstresses, people who cut the cloth, people who put it on a stick, etc... all by hand.

true, all materials are american made. but wouldnt it be more efficient to automate the process?

yes, but it would probably take away from the honor of the flag if machines made it. i have no idea, but thats my guess. its one of those rare things we should keep making by hand.

When it comes to things with high sentimental value .... Hand made > Machine made
It is a lot less efficient, but to be a "real" American flag it's got to be made with pride, by hand. IMO

I'll bet the ones from China that are for sale in Wal-Mart aren't made by hand.

And sadly that is what flies outside my house 🙁

I would be embarrassed to fly a flag that helped to kill the manufacturing industry in the US.

Sadly here too.

When I went to look for a flag about 6 months ago I couldn't find one anywhere and happened to see one in Wally World and it was made in China 🙁

What's so wrong about moving textiles and/or manufacturing out of the country? Keeping those jobs in-country just for the sake of nationalism seems rather silly. Let those low-paying, low-skill jobs go and let our generally well-educated population move into jobs better suited for them.

However, the enrichment of communist nations in this way does sort of suck.

...or in America.

Suprisingly you are correct.
The flags made in China are NOT made in America.
You have such brain power, may I worship you?

No, that would probably be just you. Many of us are thin, ambitious young professionals having no trouble finding gainful employment.

It's a great thing you live in a Utopian society.

When you say by hand, you don't mean they sew by hand, right? They use sewing machines I hope.

Would it be ok to burn an American flag made in China? 😉

Seriously though, I'm sure the majority of American flags made even in the US are made by machine. This one company(perhaps some others), either for traditions sake, as a Marketing gimmick, or even Both doesn't.

The flags my wife distributed on Thursday were made in the USA. Seems kind of lame buying a flag made in some other country. Cars on the other hand...

It's always amusing to have your realism called into question by a self-professed future superstar. How's the modelling career going, luvly?

A cool way to get a flag is through your US Senator/Representative...they fly the flags over the capital briefly, then sell them. Dont remember how much...and you need to have a reason...but its a cool gift for that impossible person to buy for!

I love it when flags include a guide on how to fold the American Flag... then have it folded in halves in plastic shrink wrap.

Idiots.
