Well what can i say .. Well maybe "a nice way to end on the s939 platform i suppose"

Bit of info i have picked up, projected release date Q1 of 2006 some sources say 2nd week of January to combat Intel's release of their new EE dual core, which will no doubt get owned again. And pricing is going to be around $1031 or there abouts, so normal FX pricing when first released it looks like.

- 2.6Ghz Dual Core Toledo 1MB L2 cache
- Unlocked multi's
- Best silicon available, for some nice air OC's

Yeah that?s exactly it, a 200Mhz '2.6Ghz' bump up from the 4800+, along with unlocked mutli's and the best DC silicon for some tastey OC's on air.

Unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) there is not going to be an FX59 3Ghz single core.

I thought the FX-60 was the last SINGLE CORE version of the FX line of cpu's?

I gess AMD did not want to scare intel more with a out of the box 3Ghz chip.

By the way, AMD should be releasing the X2 5000+ soon, too. This will be a 2.6GHz/512K per core part, so the FX-60 will be coming out instead of an X2 5200+.

Yep pretty much. This will be the last performance bump you will see on the s939 platform, that is the 5000+ and the FX60, with specs as you have stated. After this you will see the push for the socket M2 era. So realistically if you haven?t the cash for either of these two processors when they are released or there abouts, your next upgrade will most likely be socket M2, with new mobo and DDR2 (and PCIe GFX if you haven?t already a PCIE GFX card).

The FX60 will be out to combat the new Intel Extreme Edition 955 which will be released just before the FX60 I believe, however i cant see people jumping on this as you will need yet another chipset to support the once again ?1066FSB?, instead of the previous 800Mhz.

Wow, that's pretty impressive. Dual 2.6 Ghz with 1MB cache per core is sweet! Good to see the FX finally switching to dual core!

From what I heard AMD will keep S939 going until late 2006...

I think s939, will go on into late 2006, but you will find that the 3200+ and 3500+'s of today will end up being the budget chips for an old platform, just like the current s754 Semprons at the moment. Also like I said this will be the last speed bump for s939, not the end

3.1ghz @ 1.45v is amazing..

Even if it need 1.5 to be solid as a rock, 3ghz kicks ass..

We still have another 6months to a year till we see 3ghz from AMD... But obviously they could produce a few chips if needed.

These bad mama jama's are Multiplier unlocked too up and down. Throw a little Phase change in the mix and I do believe we will see some crazy shiznat with this FX chip!

ok. hello i am new here but i have an interesting question here. I have looked at the fx60 reviews and the 4800+ reviews in numerous sites.

at almost every site they are not able to oc this processor above 3.0GHz except the ones which are listed above which went to 3103MHz. if it cant do 3GHz on air it probably cannot do too much higher on water.

i am not asking which one i should get, but rather what is the fundamental difference between the two. because both are same core (toledo), both have same amount of cache, both are 90nm. only differences i see are the clock speed where the FX has 200MHz more and the core voltage which is 1.30-1.35 for FX and 1.35-1.40 for 2800+ and of course the multiplier being unlocked for FX. even this some reviewers are saying that they cannot exceed 14.5x. so it is a lousy processor for the money and potential for oc? can i oc the 4800+ even better?

i would like very much a technical explanation as to why the FX better and therefore highly priced.

The FX has 200mhz more stock speed and the unlocked multi, thats the only difference. Because its a higher binned chip it has the potential to overclock higher especially on exotic cooling, but definately not worth the huge premium IMO unless your going for benchmarking WR's
