Green Goblin is pretty pivotal in the story between Parker and Stacy since (comic reference)
Spider-Man ends up killing her while trying to save her after the Green Goblin drops her off a bridge.

That's not how I remember it.

A more PC word would be "causing her death", not "killing her". 🙁

Spider-Man_Death-of-Gwen-Stacy.jpg

The Green Goblin abducts Parker's girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, and lures Spider-Man to a tower of either the Brooklyn Bridge (as depicted in the art) or the George Washington Bridge (as given in the text).[1][2] The Goblin and Spider-Man clash, and the Goblin hurls Stacy off the bridge. Spider-Man shoots a web strand at her legs and catches her. As he pulls her up, he thinks he has saved her. However, he quickly realizes she is dead. Unsure whether the whiplash from her sudden stop broke her neck or if the Goblin had broken it previously, he blames himself for her death. A note on the letters page of The Amazing Spider-Man #125 states: "It saddens us to say that the whiplash effect she underwent when Spidey's webbing stopped her so suddenly was, in fact, what killed her."[1]

Perhaps it would have been a bit more clear if I said "unintentionally". 😛

if they use GG as the next villian in spider man 2, won't that be the same as the 2002's toby's spider man movie?

Yeah, but at least then it won't be the new Spider-Man 1 being the same as the old Spider-Man 1. 😛

EDIT:

I mean... no one cared that The Dark Knight also had the Joker in it even though the first Burton Batman movie had the Joker as well.

Yea but that was almost 20 years. Most people remember the 2002 Spidey pretty well and especially since they play it on TV pretty often.

They should of just done the origin story in the intro like how The Incredible Hulk did it.

Spiderman
Spiderman
Doesn't have me as a movie fan
Spews a bunch of science lies
Has a tone that I despise
Look out!
Don't watch the SpiderMan!

Is it good?
Listen bud,
It's got a lot of cool action but,
Does it make any sense?
Don't try to use your head.
Then you'll
Hate this film Spiderman!

I saw an interview with the kid that plays Peter Parker, he had a heavy British accent. Does Spider-man have a British accent in this movie???

No. I was the same way with Christian Bale. I had no idea he was British, then I saw him in an interview and was like WTF???

I guess American accents are easy. However when Americans try to do British accents we end up sounding like Carrie Fisher in the first Star Wars movie.

That's basically what happens in at least one version told by a marvel comic.

possible massive spoiler if the movies follow the Gwen Stacy comic storyline

Gwen Stacy is unconscious so when she is falling after the Green Goblin throws her off a bridge and Spiderman catches her with his webbing. Because she isn't conscious her neck muscles (which are quite strong in people) are totally relaxed. The momentum ends up snapping her neck (quite audibly depending on comic publication) because of this.

There was a retelling of famous or pivotal Marvel superhero events from the PoV of bystanders which was pretty cool for comic geeks.

*edit*

Oh well I guess it's famous enough eh?

oddly when it comes to attaching a line to a falling person, spidey did it correctly.

there's a tribe in either africa/southamerica/south pacific(cant remember which) that were the originators of bungee jumping.

they build scaffolding towers hundreds of feet tall and jump off with only a vine rope to stop the fall. they tie the rope around one leg so that the jolt travels along the body's long axis and doesnt snap the neck. they even jump off the platform in as relaxed and limp a pose as possible, rigid gets you killed.

if spidey had web'd her by the arm, then yes she could have snapped her neck and she might have died. but the leg is the correct attach point, and peter parker being well versed in mechanics/physics would have made sure to make the anchor point offset to the side to convert the vertical drop speed to angular velocity.

maybe. I had the original comic,
I remember wondering wtf actually killed her. Maybe there was a panel later that said something about the fall itself killing her, from 'shock' or whatever. The neck snap does make a little more sense at least.

Why do they need to rehash Spiderman and Batman every few years? The whole superhero genre is so tired at this point, IMO. FWIW, I've been a fan of comics all my life and have a collection of over 5000 books.

Batman needed it after it was ruined from the last two 90's movies.

Spiderman was completely unnecessary and mostly a legal decision.

This,

I did not dislike this movie at all.. it just felt like the entire time I had just seen all this. I'd say if the Sam Rami ones didn't exist or they completely sucked I'd have liked it a lot more.

I am glad Nolan chose Scarecrow and Ra's, they are 2 of my fav Batman villains. Would have loved to have seen him do a good job on Mr Freeze though and correct that massive mistake. To me that is the only time remakes should be done, is when there is an improvement needed.

Victor Fries is one of the deeper and most tragic Batman villains, but I'm not sure he would fit in with Nolan's "realism" vision.

i don't know. i didn't enjoy those movies (the 2nd one was alright though). i thought maguire was wrong for the part. he was too whiny as parker (and spidey) and not wisecrackey enough. i haven't seen this movie yet but what little i have seen makes me believe that the character of spidey is closer to the one i know.

saw this today. thought it was better than the previous 3 movies. i liked it a lot. dunno why all the hate. it's getting good reviews, too.

the previous Spiderman installments ALL sucked except the one tiny clip with one of the all-time best actors Bruce Campbell. this one was well thought out. every detail. great acting. insane action. kept a realistic feeling as much as possible. etc etc

I think all the hate just spews from the hate of remakes in general. Without the other movies this one wouldn't be bashed as much.

I liked it. Typically I like my superhero movies to be a little funnier (like Iron Man) but this wasn't bad and at least the drama was good. The CG was well done too. I didn't really care for the lizard villain though... his face was still too human which made me think of those god awful goombas every time they zoomed into him.

If Sony didn't make this movie the rights would've reverted back to Marvel.

I heard a rumor that Sony and Disney/Marvel may be looking to find a way to work Spiderman into a future Avenger's feature. It was on the radio so I can't dig up a link unfortunately.

Fortunately at least it appears that Sony has made every effort to make a good film even if the reasons were purely mercenary.

A lot of reviews are favorable despite grumblings about the last movie is only 5 (4?) years old.

It seems like the Spiderman is a smart aleck wisecracker like he is in the comics but wasn't so much in the Sam Raimi films.

I also like the introduction of Gwen Stacy as Peter Parker's first love interest in keeping with the source material.

I would really like to see the rhino, puma, scorpion, vulture, and jackal all being lead by kraven (lol ya right), and having kaine resurrect kraven after he kills himself. Or some carnage rampaging but since venom is still in recent memory it might be too soon for another symbiont.
