I picked the 8300 up from Newegg back in January when it was going for $105 after a promo code. Paired it with an MSI 970 Gaming board, and it's been tough getting a stable OC with that combo. I kept at it until I got 4.2 on all cores, turbo disabled @ 1.39v.
Seemed to be running fine, but about 1 out of 5 bootups I get a message that my OC profile failed to load properly. I go into the BIOS and load the profile, and it's fine again. It has the latest BIOS, but I'm about done fiddling with it, after spending hours trying to get to 4.5 stable to match the 6300 chip that the 8300 replaced.
A free game is nice incentive if you are in need of an FX chip. I'm holding onto my SB 2500k for now, and upgraded both the workbench rig and HTPC with FX chips. Both were cheaper to upgrade (at $187 total for 2 chips and 1 board) than just the Intel CPU for my SB2500K to <insert Intel i5 chip of choice here> upgrade will be.
