the agp bus

i have found that by slightly under clocking my laptop i get better battery life,
now i know that the agp/pci bus (mines a dothan on 855 chipset) cannot be pushed too high by overclocking the fsb, is the same true for underclocking? just wondering before i push it too far!

cheers

If the AGP goes too far out of spec, up or down, and there's no agp lock, it will result in system instability. If there is an agp lock, you can probably downclock the agp bus, I dunno if it will help battery life noticably though.

I don't know about bus tweaking, but if you want better battery life and you have a Dothan on i855, undervolting will probably do a lot for you. Try it! http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=70943

Agreed, I did this to my laptop and it runs much cooler now. Be sure though that your system runs prime 95 for at least 24 hours AND OR you try folding@home on it. I was able to run prime 95 on my laptop fine with out it crashing but when I started folding@home project, it would cause folding at home to finish a work unit too early and this stopped when I raised the voltage a tad bit.
