The adverts on this site are lame and annoying...

Yeah, they definitely suck. I wish they'd let us subscribe again to turn the ads off.

A browser without an ad blocker is a broken browser.

These ad companies complain about people using ad blockers, then you look at what a page looks like when you disable the ad blocker. They did it to themselves.

In the old days a couple 468x60 banners that were static images with a normal link was good enough. Now ads are just ridiculous.

Don't believe the ads about hot asian singles in your area wanting to date you.

They are lies.

When I find myself on a computer with no ad blocker, I have seen some of those that actually say the name of my city. Kinda freaky when you think about it. I imagine they go by IP address, but the way my internet works is the actual IP end point is not even in my city, as it all travels over fibre and the equipment here is only muxing equipment. it's kinda freaky that they can still narrow it down to my city.

I have adsense on my site but seriously thinking of getting rid of them when I do the overhaul, I hate the privacy implications of ads now days and rather not subject my visitors to that. I'll probably move to a direct advertising system. My site is mostly dead but it's established so I actually do get the odd request to do direct advertising so if I had an actual system for it I think I actually would get some small revenue from that. I'd probably charge per time period and not impressions. It seems to work fine for newspapers, buses, billboards etc.

I don't see those "From the Web" ads. They're always clickbait (read: tits) and on many sites, don't seem like they even change often.

Adblock plus is even better.

No it ain't.

I had it in Firefox on a netbook and the browser load time was horrendous. Took at least 30 seconds for the browser to load. I installed uBlock and now the browser loads in about 5 seconds. So when they say uBlock is fast, they really mean it. I have first hand experience.

Most sites seem to have a "Click Bait Ad Block" like that on the bottom of the screen. It used to be that just tabloid sites that had them, but now even the mainstream media sites like Fox News and CNN have them.

I'm thinking that the ads seem to be focusing more on the "gullible moron" demographic now, because almost everyone with half a brain filters those ads out.

The ad blockers do a great job of getting rid of the clickbait blocks, but now some of those sites are throwing up messages demanding that you turn off the ad blocker. At that point, I usually just stop visiting the site.
