I forgot, is it better to guess on a question you don't know or skip it?

Thanks

iirc, a wrong answer nets no point value, while a blank answer has a negative net worth when calculating your score.

isn't it important to guess on the SAT also?

1 pt for every correct
-1/4 for every wrong (assuming 5 choices)

Using expectation, the E = 0 right assuming blind guessing. Of course if you can even eliminate 1 choice, it's better to guess.

You know you are getting old when you immedeately think of the mouthwash and not the standardized test. :/
IIRC, they say it is better to guess on a question you don't know because usually you can narrow down the field a bit. It will say so in the instructions that the proctor reads aloud.

Even on the SAT(which has a penalty) guess if you don't know.
If you randomly guess(can't eliminate and single answer), statistically you'll come out even. If you can eliminate one answer, or even have the slightest gut feeling about one of the answers your ahead.
