What phone costs more than $949 plus tax? I could build a nice little pc for that much lol.

I bought a 60" LG plasma smart 3D TV couple days ago for $699. It's crazy if you think about how such a small phone costs more than a big TV.

Hell, even when you think about what an iPad with an LTE radio costs. It's less. And that's got significantly more glass, battery, and casing materials.

Phones are a very high profit margin for companies. We are getting fleeced and lining up for hours for the opportunity.

I've been buying and selling phones off contract now for a while and I realized the general shopper is going to be comfortable spending up to $450-600 out of pocket maybe more if the phone is really new or hard to get. Generally I'm talking about like new or used but models that literally have been out for a month. Some buy it for $600 from the carrier because they don't want to wait or deal with swappa or craigslist.

The one thing I like about iPhones is the resale value. Just don't get it on those plans that incorporates your monthly phone payment into your plan and you should be able to sell it.

I saw that yesterday on Verizon's website, but I don't see it there today. However, I'm pretty sure that I saw fine print that said they'd mail you the gift card, which means I assume that you'd be stuck waiting to upgrade. o_O

EDIT:

This site has the photo and also notes that it was pulled from Verizon's website: http://www.techhive.com/article/2605360/verizon-sprint-announce-competing-iphone-6-deals.html

i 100% saw it on the website myself the afternoon of the launch event. it was not very clear though how you actually traded it in, and it definitely said you get a $200 gift card mailed to you instead of simply deducting it from the price.

i checked last night after seeing the link in this thread, and it was nowhere to be found.

Maybe if you stop in the store and ask about it they can do that for you there. Sometimes the employees may not be aware but they always are looking to sell me a new phone or plan when I show up to look around.

If it's anything like Motorola's trade in program that advertised "$300 trade in!" don't get your hopes up. Even to Motorola my MotoX was only worth $60 to trade up to their new phone. Market value is around $200. My guess is you are lucky to get $50 for an iPhone4.

A developer who isn't crappy will make his software resolution independent. Same with web design.

LOL, you know not what you speak of.

As a developer, you must know the relative resolutions being used by devices, even for web design. I do responsive web pages all the time, and I use @media CSS tags along with libraries like bootstrap that handle how my pages will look like at a given resolution.

Okay man, make crappy website that only function on a handful of devices. I'll bet you're one of those designers who makes mobile webpages that can't be disabled too.

this is not true for android though. i have 1 set of images that i use for my apps on android and they look fine across many devices of all resolutions.

also, using bootstrap does not care about the resolution of the device you are displaying your page on. it sets a threshold (as in large is between x and y resolution) and then displays the stuff based on large, medium, small, etc. you as a developer don't care what the actual resolution of the device viewing the webpage is, just that it looks good in the different "sizes" bootstrap responds to.

The SDK is doing the work for you there. But if you are designing a regular web page that works as a mobile page without having to do a mobile page, then you need to do media content styling through CSS. Most good developers use libraries like bootstrap to help them with this, although it is not needed.

Here is a page explaining some of it with examples to various sites.

As the resolution changes, things in the page automatically shift, or switch to a different menu system to accommodate the page resolution.

I've got an upgrade available to me from Verizon. Considering a test drive of the Plus 64 gig...just to see what it's like. And if I don't like it, then flipping it.

Not sure how much money I'd lose with it being "like new" instead of "new in box" if I didn't like it and sold it.

Going from the Moto X to the 6 Plus? Talk about night and day.

If you want a 5.5" screen get the G3. It's significantly more ergonomic than the 6 Plus.

I went iPhone4 -> Galaxy Note II -> Moto X.

I still have a ton of paid for apps and games under my iTunes account that I share across with my iPad. I've also got two OSX machines in my home.

My primary office is a cellular black hole. I get zero reception so SMS and calls to my phone are almost always delayed. Going back to iOS gives me at least integrated iMessage so I can still text my wife and a couple friends easily over wifi. And with built in wifi calling I might actually be able to make phone calls too :)

And given my cellular black hole, if my phone isn't on a charger my battery can be torched by 11:00AM as phones try and search for signals. The beefier battery in the Plus is appealing in that regard.

Er, do what I do. Get a dock for your office.

I could never give up the one handed use of the X. If and when I move on I'll be using phones that are easy and fast to use with one hand.

Maybe the issue is your carrier?

Hey, people paid $1,000 for the Motorola StarTAC originally. Many more will buy the 128GB 6+

yeah i edited my post (2 minutes before you replied) and know how bootstrap works. but again, you don't care about the actual resolution of devices, you just care that the resolution falls into certain categories.

Which iOS programs are resolution independent? I'd wager that the vast majority of iphone programs are written to the old resolution and on the new iphones will run with black bars.

I definitely do not think Jobs would have done the 5.5 inch iphone. That thing is ridiculous.

why 4.7 inches and 1334x750? Why not like...4.3 inches and the same resolution, 960x640? You could eat away a bit at the bezels so it would be close to the same size, just bigger screen.

I don't think that iOS programs are completely resolution independent, but they're trying to go that route knowing that resolution has tied them down for some time.

As for why not 4.3" with the same resolution, its a low res. Retina binds them. Makes more sense to claim they can do HD finally as its a selling point. In Asia, practically everything 1080p is labeled FullHD. Its a big marketing play.

I got rid of my Note II and 3, just too big for my tastes.
To not have to carry around, sure it's nice...

The 4.7" size is nice but it should have been 1920x1080. That's the standard. 2560x1440 is the flagship resolution for the bigger devices. Is it a sham? Sure it is but 1080P in a flagship phone is so 2013...

And no IR blaster? What about mSD slot? On the 5.5 they should have both.

I don't know it seems AAPL is really falling behind the competition. Even sub 1k ultrabooks have 3200x1800 displays besting the retina displays.

The watch is neat but if it's locked down (no jailbreak) that would be disappointing. I can think of a lot of things that it could be used for. Battery life isn't going to be great though. For a gen1 product it looks well executed.

The 5.5 looks frail given its thickness. Lots of people gonna be surprised (and mad) after getting up with it in their back pockets!
