Wait a second, screen is not sapphire glass? I don't see any mention of synthetic sapphire crystal screen.

It's strengthened, but that's it. Sapphire is for the Apple Watch only, it seems (not counting the Touch ID sensor or camera lenses).

I guess Apple decided to abandoned common sense :D

You're not alone, it's a total cash grab by Apple. I wonder when Apple users are going to revolt.

Read Zaap's comment a few posts back. That's exactly why Apple won't give customers what they want (or money's worth). They don't have to & they know it doesn't matter & the products will sell regardless. The Apple followers are a very interesting & tolerant group.

This was my first iPhone consideration, but it's a no-go at 16 GB.

Not quite sure what my comment has to do with this. Being impressed with an Apple mobile device for the first time in 4 years is being an over-tolerant "Apple follower"?

Count me out. If the base option was 32GB and sapphire glass offered, I would seriously consider it.

The biggest issue, is that there is nothing really groundbreaking with the new iPhone. There is no "wow" factor here. They didn't make a phone which does something really special or unique like lasting 3 full days on one charge, or an amazing speaker that fills a room with sound like that of big speakers. They didn't make a super camera which would instantly make all other phones cover in shame...

So, because Apple cannot magically break the laws of physics to attain things that are quite possibly impossible (within certain parameters), it's no good? Let's look at this, shall we?

In regard to the battery, how do you expect them to get 3 full days on one charge and not make the device incredibly thick? You can't magically escape the battery chemistry!

In regard to speakers, there's only so much sound you can get out of a speaker a certain size. So, yet again, do you want them to make the phone bigger just to fit larger speakers? You could at least make a decent argument and state that the 5.5" phone gave them enough room to put in stereo speakers or something like that.

In regard to the camera, what's wrong with their camera? Do you expect them to toss in some camera with a ludicrous number of megapixels? The main benefit of those high-megapixel sensors is that you can perform more effective digital zooms given the original image is larger. This is really rather similar to someone talking about AMD having "more hertz" so it must be better. You're ignoring aspects of the camera, and I'll personally wait for some reviews before passing my judgment on it. Although, I doubt most smartphone cameras would be awful for me. :p

Are you sure using NFC type payment doesn't transmit credit card information over to the merchant? How else would they charge my card? Maybe I need to research more but the fundamental seems flawed to me.

I believe it works like PayPal does where it uses individual tokens to process payments rather than just providing the same information at each transaction.

I was affected by Target and I was protected 100%. Almost all credit cards protects consumers from fraud anyway...zero liability.

We may not have a problem since we get our money back, but the retailers get put over a barrel because they are stuck paying back the money and paying fines to the card company (Visa, MasterCard, etc.). They would want something to help avoid any liability if something goes wrong, and it can help us feel just a little bit safer. Comforting I guess?

Forbes has no confidence in the Apple Watch

http://www.forbes.com/sites/brettarends/2014/09/09/is-the-apple-watch-already-a-30-billion-flop/

Hard to believe, but $30 billion is the value that was wiped off Apple’s market value in the few hours after CEO Tim Cook unveiled the latest iPhones and the company’s “next big thing,” its Apple Watch.

At 1.58 pm on Tuesday, moments before the big Apple event began, the shares were as high as $102.91. By the afternoon’s close they were down to $97.99, a loss of $4.92.

As there are six billion Apple shares in circulation the fall in price amounts, in round numbers, to $30 billion – more than the entire market value of a lot of major companies. The cause of the fall was disappointment at the new iPhone and the new Apple Watch, which seemed less dramatic than many had hoped they would be.

To put this in context, the amount wiped off Apple’s market value was twice as much as the entire market value of Tiffany & Co. No, really. Tiffany is valued at $13 billion.

Thirty billion dollars is also about 5% of Apple’s gross value – and a higher percentage of the net value, if you set aside the company’s cash pile.

Are these calculations silly? Sure.

The butthurt is strong here.

And the 5S camera is better to me* than the following competitors i have used (S4,G2,Note 3, Note4).

I see that no matter what, apple can please everyone. First the screen is too small, apple offers a bigger screen. Yet still people look for something to fail it. You all sound like government inspectors, no matter what something will be found to be out of reqs.

I'll be ordering the 4.7" on Friday. Looking forward to having an iPhone with a bigger screen. TBH, that was all I was really looking for. I don't really expect innovation from anyone anymore so color me a bit jaded on that front. As long as I can retain the stability iOS has offered me over my attempts with Android, the battery life that has worked better form relative to my attempts with Android, etc. then I'm all good with just a screen size bump. Thought about going back to Android one more time but may wait another year.

Here's the problem for Apple when it comes to those screaming foul due to lack of innovation. Screen size was an easy one for them. What are they going to do next year when the low hanging fruit has already been consumed?

They won't do much next year except change or an one or two things. I suspect the 6s and 6s plus to have something different. But they don't need to do much, Apple products sell regardless because they are easy to use and they look good.

Am I the only one who thinks offering a 16 GB option is a kick in the teeth? I mean, since Apple refuses to incorporate a memory card slot, shouldn't the smallest offering be 32 GB?

The bezel on the 6 Plus looks ridiculous. The phone would've looked better with square edges.

someone posted here or somewhere else that the plan was to have a 32 as the base but charge more for it on contract(300 i think), carriers pitched a fit, so... 16 GB base model @ 200

. . . so why don't they just sell the 32GB for 200 on contract? The additional 16GB costs, what? An extra dime when bought in these quantities.

Rich people/companies don't get/stay rich by being generous. ;)

I think its more that they want to force people to use iCloud more. Easier to datamine and monitor people that way. For the carriers, it means users need to spend more money for the higher tiered data packages to support the cloud.

I really don't think the Watch will sell well in the long run. And yes, I'm aware the iPad had countless doubters too.

Only if you want to use Terrorist Wallet as your pay app. Google Wallet just works... with current devices anyway.
You just saved me a trip to att. It was the terrorist app I was going to use. Didn't want to do Google because it only took Mastercard.

There are quite a number of stores that can take NFC payments, but then you do run into places that don't have it. Point is, both iOS and Android are/will be using NFC, so phones from either camp (that have NFC) will work at the same locations.

Another thing I realized about the watch, they have so many different methods of input, from the crown dial, to the comm button, to taps, presses, force touch or whatever that is, that's going to be really confusing for people. The input methods on their watch are actually more complicated than the phone and tablet!
Good to hear that more stores are into nfc. I will be looking for them now.

My only complaint with the watch is that you need an iPhone to use it. I need someone to do a android watch with nfc that stays charged for more than a day.

Do you really think so? It's 2014, they just released a new iPhone, and it only has USB 2.0 for transferring photos & videos. Can you imagine transferring 128 gigs worth of multimedia over that connection??

yes because I do it all the time

FWIW the Note 4 is only USB 2.0

my phone supports UBS 3 but I never use it, front ports on my comp are 2.0, there are some on the back that are 3.0 but there are all occupied. unless someone is running a pretty new comp they are goanna be in a similar situation

also the thing supports wireless AC can you simply transfer stuff over the wifi to a network connected HDD? I'm asking I honestly don't know. that would be a lot faster vs the cord
